The month of April isn’t the most exciting of this year for cinema. However, the month has one of the most hyped films of the year releasing in it – Monkey Man. The film is Dev Patel’s directorial debut and based on the trailer and critical reception, it seems like an absolute knockout. Many critics have hailed the film as the new age John Wick, a huge compliment for a film only made on a reported budget of $10 million. The film has just released in theatres this weekend and the box office predictions are healthy as well. Monkey Man Will Start Streaming Soon!
According to a new listing on dvdreleasedates, Dev Patel’s Monkey Man will be available for rent or purchase on digital and VOD platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and Apple iTunes from April 23rd, 2024. If this release date turns out to be accurate then the Dev Patel directorial will have an exclusive theatre-to-digital window of only 18 days.
For a film that has considerable hype this online release window is too short in my opinion. I know the film isn’t backed by a huge production house but given that the film is tracking around $15 to $20 million (budget – $10 million) I think Monkey Man could be released online much later. However, the online debut of the film can always be pushed back if it really picks up at the box office.
At the time of writing, the DVD and Blu-ray release date of the film hasn’t been announced yet. Monkey Man has opened up to rave reviews from critics with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 85% from 149 reviews and an IMDb rating 7.4/10.
Along with Dev Patel in the lead, Monkey Man stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Adithi Kalkunte, Makarand Deshpande, Ashwini Kalsekar, Vipin Sharma and Sharito Copley.
