Abigail is a new horror flick starring Katheryn Newton, Melissa Berra, Alisha Weir, Angus Cloud and Kevin Durand. The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and focuses on a group of kidnappers who capture and watch over Abigail, the daughter of a powerful underworld figure from whom they demand a $50 million ransom. What follows afterwards, results in a bloodbath. An impressive trailer of the film was just released yesterday that has gotten horror fans excited all over the world. However, we all know how horror films work, right? – Intriguing trailers but bad films. So, is Abigail worth the hype? Well, only the critics can tell us that but now as the review embargo hasn’t lifted yet. When will it lift up? Let’s find out.

Abigail (2024): Review Embargo Will Lift Soon!

Multiple reputed critics on X (previously Twitter) have revealed that the official review embargo for Abigail (2024) will lift up on April 6th at 12 PM ET. Until now, not even early reactions of the film are out yet. There was some mystery around the film as no marketing material was released until yesterday (only 15 days before the release).

There were even rumors circulating that this horror flick from Universal Pictures is disastrous which is why the studio isn’t even marketing it. However, I think the trailer has proved everyone wrong and there is a segment of the audience really excited for this Vampire saga. The review embargo lifting on April 6th is a good sign for the film’s quality. Let me explain.

The embargo lifting up on 6th i.e., 13 days before the film’s theatrical release date is a good sign because this means the studio isn’t afraid of critics spreading a bad word of mouth. In fact the studio will use the reviews as marketing material for the film.

Last year, critically and commercially successful films like Barbie and Oppenheimer both lifted their embargos 2-3 days before their release. While critical and box office bombs like Meg 2: The Trench and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom both lifted their review embargos on the day of the film’s release. Only time will tell if Abigail keeps up this trend.

Abigail (2024) will release in theatres on April 19th, 2024.
