James Cameron is one of the most visionary directors who have ever existed. He has always pushed the boundaries of cinema technologies first with The Terminator, then with Titanic and finally with Avatar (2007). Avatar took the world of CGI and 3D to new unprecedented heights and revolutionized cinema. Cameron wanted to make Avatar in the 90’s but the technology itself didn’t exist back then, so he settled with Titanic. Later on, with his help new tech was created for his dream film Avatar and same is the case with its sequels.
We haven’t seen or heard much from Cameron since Avatar. Last project he was involved in was Alita: Battle Angel where he was one of the main producers. As expected, the film once again boosted the level of CGI and motion capturing. Now the world is waiting for Avatar 2 and its sequels. As you may already know there are 4 planned sequels with Avatar 5 all set to release in 2028. Well, we have some great news for you!
Avatar 2 Trailer Will Debut Soon
The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider reported that Disney is planning to debut the first trailer for Avatar 2 soon. The trailer will come out in front of the theatrical release of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The masterminds at Disney are probably hoping that this strategy will work out greatly for both these films. Of course, these two films are their biggest blockbusters lined up for 2022.
The two franchises used to be competitors before Disney bought 20th Century Fox and now, well they are all Disney. Talking about box office, Avengers: Endgame took a minor lead when it dethroned Avatar but after re-release of Avatar, it once again rules the box office. Avatar sits about $50 million ahead of Avengers: Endgame at the all-time box office, even though bulk of its revenue came more than a decade ago.
So, being owned by Disney, instead of competing with Marvel Studios, 20th Century Studios will work along with it. Also, as you may know, Warner Bros. and DCEU’s Shazam!: Fury of the Gods is set to premiere on the same exact day as the Avatar 2. This move though, will rejuvenate the buzz around Avatar 2 and put it ahead of any and all competition. Avatar 2 is all set to release on December 16, 2022 and the from looks of it, it will be on time.
