The Witcher 4 CDPR Announces a New Witcher Game on Unreal Engine 5 2

Just a few days ago, we were talking about the possibility of Witcher 4 and the new game in the Witcher Saga. Well, CDPR has surprised everyone by officially announcing a new game in the franchise!

“We’re happy to announce that the next installment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise,” CDPR said.

With this new Witcher game, CDPR is moving on from their very own REDengine to Unreal Engine 5. This will also mark the beginning of a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games (Fortnite devs). It covers the licensing as well as development of Unreal Engine 5, along with potential future versions of Unreal Engine. “We’ll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences”, they said.

At this point, no further details regarding the game have been revealed. So we do not have any info about the development time frame or release date but here’s what we know about it. The Witcher trilogy stands alone and that the game will not be called The Witcher 4. Also, the game will not be about Geralt as his story wrapped up pretty well in Witcher 3 and it would be cruel to drag the old man back into the field.

It might feature Ciri as the protagonist but again, the game may not be a continuation of the saga. So, its possible that it features Vesemir as its protagonist or it is also possible that it is based during the events around Conjunction of Spheres. But if you look closely at the image provided above, you’ll notice that the medallion is different. It is probably the medallion from the Cat School of Witcher. Hence, its possible that the new game will be based on a new set of Witchers, instead of our beloved School of Wolf Witchers. All that remains to be seen, but the good news is that the Witcher game saga is coming back for sure and it’s just a matter of time now.
