Money Heist was originally a Spanish TV show that aired on one of the Spanish networks, and was supposed to last only one season that covers the first heist we are all familiar with. The show was not really a hit at that time, not even with the Spanish audiences. Netflix bought the show’s streaming rights and then edited it according to their syntax and made it available for streaming. To almost everyone’s surprise, the show blew up and really fans across the world loved the show and craved for more. The craze of the show went to the point where Netflix renewed an acquired show and treated it like an original. Netflix released three more parts of the show which tackled another heist that the gang plans not for money but for revenge. Once again, the show found its success but many fans pointed out that it experienced an eventual drop in quality and by Part 4 it became pretty unrealistic and overdramatic.
The song Bella Ciao from the show which is a version of the original Spanish folk song became an internet sensation, especially in India. One other element of the show that the fans totally adored was the character of Berlin, who appeared in the first two parts of the show. At the end of part two, the character died. However, the later seasons had a subplot from the past that kept the character in the loop and fans could see their favorite character at regular intervals. Wait, the popularity of the character doesn’t end here, as Netflix realized the potential of the character and went on to announce a prequel series which was supposed to air after Money Heist ends. Well, now we finally have an announcement teaser for the prequel!
Berlin: The Money Heist Prequel Is Coming In December 2023!
The new announcement video released by Netflix reveals Pedro Alonso (Berlin) planning another intricate heist in the City of Love aka Paris, however, this time it would be a jewel heist. The video also teases that a mysterious woman would play a major role. Berlin would take place before the events of the original series, and the show’s timeline would be before Berlin met the Professor and the others. Love seems to be like a major theme of the series. The show creator revealed the show will be, “a trip through the golden age of the character, when he robbed around Europe crazy in love.”
The creator also teased that the prequel would be funny which is a big departure from the original show which resorted to intense drama with a few jokes tossed in. As of now, it is unclear whether characters from the original show like the Professor would make an appearance in the show but let’s hope they do have some cameos. As the show is supposed to release this December, Netflix would soon release a full length trailer where we’d get more idea about the show’s plot and characters.
