God of War Ragnarok Sequel God of War 6 Egypt Kratos

The moment we were all waiting for came, stayed briefly, and then passed just like the entire year did. When you look exactly a year back to the time Santa Monica’s team was being literally harassed by fans, it is quite funny. In the snap of our fingers, God of War: Ragnarok touched all our lives and left a huge hole in our hearts “which grows the more you take away”. Anyways, now that the short lived Norse saga has been concluded, fans have been left asking what is next for the manliest God who ever walked Greece and Midgard. That is exactly what this article is about. Obviously, a few spoilers for GOW: Ragnarok follow below, so if you haven’t played it yet, why haven’t you?

God of War New Sequel In Development, Another Job Listing Confirms

Yes, the Norse Saga has concluded but was there any doubt there won’t be another God of War game? I mean, it has been the flagship and most profitable IP of Sony PlayStation Studios since decades and they surely won’t let their tattooed killing machine go. So, even though Kratos has earned a well deserved rest and even retirement, that won’t be happening anytime soon. As you may know, God of War: Ragnarok ended with Atreus and Kratos parting ways and though Sony clearly stated it was the end of Norse saga, it doesn’t mean it is the end of God of War.

Firstly, a lot of stories remain to be told in the Norse Saga itself and for that, we hope to see an Atreus based spin-off. But other than that, no matter how attached you might have gotten to the characters in this saga, I do not think we’ll be seeing more of them. Before we dwell deeper into what the sequel will be about, let us enlighten you with the latest development which makes us so sure that a sequel is in plans. So here, what’s happened. Santa Monica Studios is seeking a Combat Designer for the development of a new unannounced title!

What’s even more interesting is that they have also stated that the applicant “must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics, and enemies.” Mentioning these two games specially definitely hints that there’s something going on at Santa Monica Studios. What further confirms our suspicions is the fact that earlier this year, something similar happened at Valkyrie Entertainment, which acts a major support studio to Santa Monica. Their new job listing clearly stated, “We are currently working on several AAA-titles alongside our partners, including the next iteration of God of War, as well as in-house projects for both mobile and console platforms.”

I mean that is at clear as it can get. Now let’s talk about what this sequel might be about. As fun it was, playing as Atreus at various moments in the game, Kratos was, is, and will remain the heart and soul of the franchise. So, if there’s going to be a proper God of War title, Kratos has to be the one to lead it. Sure, there can be some spin-offs and all which can feature some other protagonist but the main series has always been defined by Kratos. That leaves us with the matter of where. He’s destroyed Greece, and saved the 9, well, 8 realms in the Norse pantheon. And since, it was confirmed he’s done with the Norse pantheon, it is time for him to move on to a new one. Could it be Egyptian Pantheon, or Sumerian Pantheon or Roman maybe? My guess would be Egyptian. What’s yours?

God of War: Ragnarok is available to play on Play Station 5 and Play Station 4.
