Marvel Studios is so big in today’s cinematic world, that everyone wants to be in a Marvel movie. There was once a time when superstars or award winning actors won’t opt for superhero films but today, almost every major or minor actor is in one or the other superhero film or series. So, humans being humans, always find ways to rip off people and that is exactly what happened with many struggling actors who wanted to be Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Here’s everything you need to know about the scam, director James Gunn called out via his Twitter account.
James Gunn Calls Out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Casting Scam
Last night James Gunn posted a screenshot of an Instagram story which was a casting call for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He quoted a fan’s tweet, attached the screenshot and wrote, “Okay this is disgusting. People should beware of companies like @Nine9dotCOM, ripping off people & taking advantage of their dreams. Once again, this casting call is bullshit: we finished shooting a month ago.”
Apparently, a company by the name of Nine9dotCom, is hosting regular mass zoom calls to get people to pay them 99$ plus monthly service fees to have opportunities for James Gunn’s upcoming film GOTG Vol. 3. This scam has been going on for months now and is still functioning, therefore, James Gunn settled it once and for all by calling it out and criticizing it.
One of the users wrote, “I auditioned with a fake application around a month ago just to get a look into their operations, and it’s pretty obvious right away. They get you in a Zoom call where you can’t see any other participants or talk in chat, and then ask you to pay a monthly fee for their services.” While, another user wrote that when he went for it, they asked the $99 and “didn’t even mention GOTG once”.
A genre diverse actress and voice actress, Kayla Cromer also spoke about the issue and tweeted, “There are a lot of scammers out there!! I booked my first series regular role through a nationwide casting call but that was directly through casting & the TV network directly (I was looking for agent at the time, but was signed immediately after booking the job without one).”
When one fan asked about the correct procedure to “get a hold of the official casting calls”, Gunn replied that the only way it is done is via direct contact with agencies and networks. He later on deleted the reply due to reasons unknown, hence we cannot quote it. Anyways, that it basically what this casting scam is about and if you really care for your money, it is best to stay away from such indirect posts about openings.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is all set to debut on 5th May 2023.
