John Wick has been one of the most famous action franchises of this generation. Barring some others, there is no franchise that even comes close to the popularity of the movie series. The franchise has practically revived Keanu Reeves’ career after the star basically went dormant in Hollywood since the Matrix and Speed movies. John Wick first started out as an one off action film but the surprising reception to the film made it into a franchise. My personal favorite is the third chapter, second one was boring to me and the first serves as a good introduction into the world and character. The fourth chapter which released this year left me appalled, easily the worst of the franchise. What is annoying me is the overwhelmingly positive response to the film. One of the things that I didn’t like about the film was the ending.
It felt abrupt to me. John Wick shouldn’t die out of a bullet after surviving almost every danger in the world. The franchise ended on a totally awful note for me. However, it turns out this is not the end of the franchise. John Wick Chapter 5 has been announced… officially!
John Wick: Chapter 5 Is Officially In The Works!
Everyone was wondering whether there will be John Wick Chapter 5, the ending of its predecessor didn’t suggest so. Everyone has played coy about a potential fifth John Wick film. However, ComicBook.com reported that during Lionsgate’s Q4 2023 earnings call, Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake spilled the beans on the franchise’s future. “What is official is that… Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year,” said Drake. “We’re in development on three others, including [John Wick 5] and including television series, The Continental, will be airing soon. And so, we’re building out the world and when that fifth movie comes, will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories.”
Drake also revealed that John Wick will have regular cadence in the future. This news comes right after director Chad Stahelski and actor Keanu Reeves have refused to answer questions of returning to the John Wick franchise. The former even refused an offer from Lionsgate to make another John Wick film, “I think the greatest part is that, after each John Wick, I took two years off to go live and get better; to travel, to read more, and to get better,” Stahelski explained. “I don’t know how to do a movie back-to-back and get better for the second one.”
The Franchise stars Keanu Reeves in the lead role. The other cast includes Clancy Brown, Donnie Yen, Bill Skasrsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror, Rina Sawayama, Ian Mcshane, Lance Reddick and Laurence Fishburne.
