Mythology is everywhere, be it major franchises like the MCU delving deeply into the world of myths in their films and television shows, as well as other shows like Percy Jackson and the Olympians waiting in the wings. It was recently announced that Russell Crowe would be joining the Thor: Love and Thunder cast as Zeus. And now, we have another big name ascending to godhood. Hugh Grant will be starring as Zeus in Kaos, Netflix’s retelling of Greek mythology. Grant is well-known for his roles in movies like About a Boy, Notting Hill, and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Furthermore, he recently received an Emmy nomination for his performance in the HBO drama The Undoing.

According to Deadline, Netflix has signed on a star-studded cast for the pantheon of Greek gods for The End of the F***ing World writer Charlie Covell’s upcoming mythological series Kaos. “I believe I’m still in shock at the news that Hugh Grant has agreed to play Zeus – this was my dream. He’s leading a stupendous cast of actors, and we’re extremely honoured to have them all on board. I can’t wait for filming to begin,” Covell said in a statement.
Kaos is described as a “darkly comedic and contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld.” Grant will play Zeus in the series, who will be portrayed as an all-powerful yet insecure deity who rules over all Greek Gods. Zeus becomes paranoid after discovering wrinkles on his face one day and thinks they are a warning that his reign is about to come to an end.

David Thewlis (Fargo) as Hades, the God of the Underworld, will also be joining the pantheon as we see him gradually losing control over his realm and more and more corpses start to appear. Hera, the Queen of the Gods, Zeus’s wife and the true leader of the Gods, will be portrayed by Janet McTeer (Ozark), who feels threatened by Zeus’s paranoia. Cliff Curtis (Avatar: The Way of Water) plays Poseidon, The God of the ocean, who is lost and only cares about having fun and partying.
Nabhaan Rizwan will also appear in the series as Dionysus, the son of Zeus and the God of Wine. Killian Scott, Misia Butler, Leila Farzad, and Aurora Perrineau will be playing a group of mortals who have teamed together in order to overthrow Zeus after getting tired of his reign. Additionally joining the cast are Rakie Ayola, Stanley Townsend, and Billie Piper in unannounced roles.
Kaos has been written and created by Covell and Sister, and Anthem is producing the series. Georgi Banks-Davies has joined the project as the lead director of the show as well as an executive producer. Runyararo Mapfumo has also agreed to helm a handful of the show’s episodes. Kaos is scheduled to begin production this summer.
