Stranger Things Season 5 Release Date, Episode Count and Plot Revealed by Creators

Stranger Things is Netflix’s biggest English Language show ever. The show debut in 2016 and seeing the aftermath of its release, the show was soon renewed. The 2nd Season of the show came out in October 2017, just a year later than the first. Although, the 3rd Season of the show came out in July 2019, 2 years after the 2nd Season. However, that wasn’t the longest fans had to wait as the latest season i.e., the 4th Season of Stranger Things has returned almost after 3 years. This has also resulted in all the young actors growing quite a bit, making the transition from Season 3 to 4 even more severe. The young actors currently are around 19-21 years-old in their real life while they have to play a 14 year-old counterpart.

It is becoming more and more difficult for the showrunners to maintain this illusion due to the big gap between Season 3 and Season 4. Many fans consider this to be the main reason why Stranger Things will conclude in its 5th Season. Well, that may hold some truth in it. Regardless, fans were delighted to watch the 4th Season but the show for the first time ever has ended on a dark note where the our heroes have lost and Hawkins has fallen. Stranger Things 4 was the longest, biggest and baddest season of the show yet. Seeing the note of uncertainty the show ahs left fans on it is only natural for them to be curious when they’ll be able to get their resolution.

It’s still early days to talk about Stranger Things 5 considering the Season 4 Vol. 2 just dropped 4 days earlier, checkout our review of Vol. 2,  but we have an update from a reliable source.

Season 5 Release Date Teased by David Harbour

David Harbour who has been a core part of the Stranger Things group despite not been in the main children gang has given us an update on the last season’s arrival. Harbour has portrayed Detective Jim Hopper, Chief of Police Hawkins PD. His role throughout the show is very pivotal especially him being a father figure to show’s lead Eleven. While Harbour’s character had supposedly died at the end of Season 3, the character has returned and will feature in the last season as well.

Season 4 Vol. 1 introduced us to Vecna and Vol. 2 finally confirmed the suspicion I had for a long time. Vecna is indeed the big bad guy of Stranger Things responsible for whatever’s wrong with Hawkins. Vecna is all set to return stronger than ever in Season 5 and on account of his win his return will be even more ominous. Resurrected David Harbour in a recent interview GQ teased a possible release window for Stranger Things 5.

“I think we’ll [shoot] next year. They’re finishing writing it this year, and they need to prep and stuff, so hopefully it’ll be this year, but I think that’s the plan. So it’d probably come out mid-2024, based on our track record.” Harbour’s comments fall in line with what we’ve been hearing from the masterminds behind Stranger Things- The Duffer Brothers. “We’re going to take a little vacation in July. And then we’re going to come back,” Ross Duffer said. “I know that the writer’s room is going to start in the first week of August.”

Stranger Things Season 5 Plot and Episodes

Along with this they also gave fans a sinister warning about Stranger Things 5, Usually at the end of a season, we tie things up with a nice bow, before a little tease that says, ‘Hold on, something is unraveling.’ As we move into Season 5, we don’t have to do that,” said Matt Duffer. “There won’t be a reset from where we finish this season.” While these comments were made before the release of Stranger Things 4, seeing the ending it had, the words from Duffer Brothers are sounding truer and truer.

The Duffer Brothers even hinted that the final season might end up being shorter than the 4th Season. We thought Season 4 was going to be eight [episodes], and they were going to be regular length. So if you had interviewed us before four, that’s what I would’ve said,” Matt Duffer mentioned in an interview with Collider. While Season 5 will be a similar length in number of episodes, the runtime won’t be as significant as Season 4.

“I think we’re aiming for eight again,” he continued. “We don’t want it to be 13 hours. We’re aiming for more like 10 hours or something. I think it’s going to be longer than Season 1 because we just have so much to wrap up, but I don’t think it’s going to be as long as Season 4.” I’m not quiet sure whether to deem this as a good news or bad news. While I want as much as Stranger Things possible, a shorter season also means an earlier release date possibility. Let me know how excited are you for Stranger Things 5? What did you think for of Season 4’s ending?

Stranger Things 4 is currently streaming on Netflix.
