The Boys Black Noir Will Return in Season 4 And So Will Nathan Mitchell

The Boys season 3 debuted its final episode yesterday which was a but disappointing to say in the least. After an extraordinary season which gave us back to back stellar episodes, episode 8/finale turned out to mediocre and quite flawed. One of its major flaws was how they butchered the character of Black Noir, who they built up from the very first season. While we haven’t spoiled anything so far but if you continue reading, you will find some extremely huge spoilers for The Boys season 3 and well as the finale. So, read at your own risk.

Is Black Noir Really Dead in The Boys Season 3 Finale?

In an intended shocking moment, Homelander kills Black Noir and rips literally rips his internals out just cause he kept something from him. Noir was always close to Homelander and this is probably the only time we have seen Homelander killing someone with a hint of sadness and remorse. While threatening Ashey, A-Train and Deep, he didn’t fail to mention how he respected Black Noir and how he was worth more than all them combined. Anyways, just like that, we lost Black Noir who was actually the major antagonist in the comics. But it seems like it isn’t the end of Black Noir although he may not come back as the one we know.

The good news is that, showrunner Eric Kripke told Entertainment Weekly, “a character who is completely silent and in a black mask can be recast.” As seen in the final moments, we saw how Vought proclaimed Maeve dead, but not Noir. If they wanted him dead, they would have told the media he too was destroyed by Soldier Boy. Instead they hid it, because literally anyone can wear his suit and Vought can pass them as Black Noir. So, yes Vought will surely bring in someone new to don Black Noir’s costume. And that someone new will be played by Nathan Mitchell himself. How you may ask? Well here’s how.

Black Noir and Nathan Mitchell Will Return in The Boys Season 4

The Boys Season 3 Episode 7 Review - Black Noir's Animated Tragedy

Nathan Mitchell has been the man underneath the Black Noir suit since day 1, but he wasn’t the actor shown playing the maskless Noir. As you might remember, in Episode 3 flashback scene, Fritzy-Klevans Destine played Black Noir and basically his character died in season 3 finale. But now Nathan Mitchell will return as a new kind of Black Noir and as a new character under the suit. So, yeah in short, the same actor will play the new Black Noir with a different and fresh take on the character.

Kripke explained it by saying that Mitchell will play “a different character who wears the Black Noir suit. It’s definitely not the last we’ve seen of Black Noir as a hero. It’s just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season 3, he’s gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season. We’ll explore it as the season goes on, but Nathan plays a whole new character.”

He went on to share what happened when he sat down with Mitchell to discuss this, “I think I literally said something like, ‘OK, so I’m gonna say something and your stomach’s gonna drop, but then I’m gonna follow it up with something and you’re gonna see that it’s okay.'”
