WB’s latest DCEU film The Flash, which is slated to release next year had its test screenings over the past few months. According to trade sources, Ezra Miller’s superhero film is extraordinarily well-received by the test audience and can become a real crowd-pleasing blockbuster for DCEU and WB, which had a pretty uneven track record with their superhero films. Certain sources went as far as to say that it is the best DCEU film so far. So, it looks like some hope surely exists for DCEU. Unfortunately, these reactions haven’t been made public yet, so we do not know what exactly they said. So, here’s everything else we know about The Flash and other latest news regarding it.
Ezra Miller Will Not be Re-Cast
The source also confirms Ezra Miller is not going to be re-cast in the titular role despite of his off-screen toxic behavior, as the film already completed its filming way back in 2021. An exclusive streaming option on HBOMAX to limit the negative aura of the star is also seems to be out of cards as the film cost around $200M and WB reportedly decided to give it a full blockbuster treatment.
Another option of complete re-shoot or digitally replacing Ezra is also out of the window as the film is made on a huge budget and the technology to use cgi trickery to replace actors is still in its infancy. For now, Ezra Miller will continue to play Flash in the DCEU and its up to the studio to change that decision, re-casting the character in future sequels to Flash or turning it into a standalone one-and-done project if the actor gives any more trouble.
The Flash Release Date and Plot Details
The Flash is scheduled to release next year June 2023. The film was originally slated to release in November 2022, but WB eventually pushed back the release date. Coming to the plot details, The film reportedly has Flash trying to go back to the past to prevent his mother’s death and save his father getting falsely acquitted for her murder. Flash’s actions have serious repercussions across the current universe and most probably the multiverse.
The Flash is also said to introduce new characters like Batgirl and Supergirl set in a new timeline with a surprise return of Michael Keaton as an ageing Batman, replacing Ben Affleck who’s signed to appear in an extended-cameo and took the role of the caped crusader first in the DCEU’s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Keaton already portrayed Batman twice in early live-action films Batman(1989) and also Batman Returns(1992), receiving praise from critics and fans alike.
