Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Johnny Depp's Return Chances High Post Depp vs Heard Verdict, Says Disney Exec

Pirates of the Caribbean used to be one of Disney’s most popular franchises before the fifth film. Even though its last entry was disliked by many critics, it managed to gross over $790 Million worldwide. The franchise has grossed over $4.5 Billion since 2003 and it’s first three entries are quite popular and adored by fans and critics alike. It was earlier revealed that the beloved pirate franchise is officially getting Pirates of the Caribbean 6 without the fan favorite, Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. But the latest comments by a former Disney Executive say otherwise.

Disney to Bring Johnny Depp Back To Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

As you might be aware, the immensely popular actor won his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard and was awarded nearly $15 Million in compensation. The celeb magazine, People recently spoke with an unnamed former Disney executive on potential return of Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The anonymous exec said the chances for Depp’s return are really high following his victory, and the studio needs to bank on iconic actors and characters. Here’s exactly what he said as reported by People:

“I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board. There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture. With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises.”

On the other hand, Depp recently commented that he had no interest in returning to the franchise after Disney fired him from Pirate’s 6. They sis not even offer him a chance to wait till the script was ready or to give his iconic character Jack Sparrow, a proper goodbye. It’s no doubt that firing Depp from Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and Fantastic Beasts 3 might have broken his heart.

After all, Depp’s portrayal of Jack Sparrow is iconic and he became the main selling point of the franchise. Disney still continues to sell merchandise with the Jack Sparrow toys made in his likeness, which makes the conglomerate a lot of money. Depp emphasized that he won’t return even if Disney offers him a large paycheck. Fans of Depp were outraged with Disney’s decision and there were also two fan petitions currently asking Disney to bring him back into the role. You can read all about Depp’s statement in our previous article here. So, even though Disney might now be ready to bring him back, the actor won’t probably return and its only fair. This relationship works both ways and the studio unfortunately chose not to trust him, and fans should understand if Depp doesn’t want to return.
