Aquaman 2 is the successor to the very successful Aquaman that released in 2018. It was one of the rare DC movies which was not critically bashed and performed amazingly at the box office. The first DC movies after The Dark Knight to cross the $1 billion at the global box office. A sequel has been in the works for a long time but has been a victim of delays. Aquaman is one of the few DC characters whose future remains as a mystery in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU. It all depends upon the box office performance of the sequel, if it is good Momoa will continue as Aquaman in the DCU, if not then he is all set to appear as Lobo. So, it seems like a lot depends upon the sequel. That is enough pressure already but what if I say that the sequel is getting consistently bad reviews in test screenings? Pressure skyrockets, right?
Aquaman 2 Test Screening Reviews Are Expectedly Bad!
A new report from Variety reveals that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has continued to score badly at the test screenings despite the re-edit of the film being completed in Summer 2022. Out of 100, the film only scores in the 60s on an average. The report further mentions an insider who spoke with the outlet and he described the James Wan directorial as, “The movie is like this echo of regimes. It’s the last remnant of the SnyderVerse, and no one really wants to take ownership of it.”
Variety also noted that reshoots for the sequel happened up until the writers’ strike in May 2023. The outlet’s on-set source refuted claims that Aquaman 2 suffered from troublesome production, pointing out that the sequel was, “on time, under budget, and needed only about a week of reshoots.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated to release in theatres on 20th December 2023.
