James Gunn was fired from Marvel because of his past tweets resurfacing. People found them offensive and Marvel was quick to please them by firing the filmmaker. DC was also quick to react by hiring the filmmaker and present to him with options, out of which he had to make at least one movie. He of course chose another ensemble film- The Suicide Squad. Despite Ayer making a film just a few years before, DC decided to make a new version of it, simply because of the fact that it was critically bashed. Gunn made some changes to the squad and some casting changes that made his new Suicide Squad. Well, I can’t say that the new movie did well financially since it released on streaming because of the state of theatres during the pandemic. It was very well received critically.
One of the most standout cast and team changes made by James Gunn was John Cena as Peacemaker and he was beloved by fans to the extent which he got his own TV series which did very well also. It has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 94% and an IMDb score of 8.3/10. Despite the incredible success of the show it has not been renewed for a second season. With everything that has been going on with DC Studios, has James Gunn cancelled its own brainchild? Let’s find out.
Peacemaker Season 2 Is Not Cancelled!
As we have not been getting any updates about the Peacemaker season 2, fans had assumed that this was another DC show which faced the axe because of all the changes that have been going on at DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership. Fans bombarded Gunn with various tweets and posts about the show’s renewal. Gunn irritated with this has finally cleared the air about the show and has assured the fans that the show has not been cancelled simply postponed.
Replying to a tweet that said Peacemaker was cancelled Gunn wrote back, “Heck no, just postponed while I work on ‘Legacy.’ ‘Waller’ first. ‘PM’ after.” James Gunn spoke about the new Waller show starring Viola Davis last month when he announced his new DC slate. “Viola Davis is coming back as her character, Amanda Waller. This is also going to have some of the ‘Peacemaker ‘team in it as regulars on the show. This basically follows up ‘Peacemaker’. We have two great creatives working on it: Christal Henry, who was a writer on Watchmen, and Jeremy Carver who created Doom Patrol. They have this incredibly marvelous story worked out that I think is really fantastic.”
Peter Safran also stated that Waller sits between Peacemaker season 1 and season 2. Gunn told The Wrap last month that, “Viola [Davis] is still playing Waller and she has Team Peacemaker in this. This is really a continuation from Peacemaker.” So yeah, in conclusion Peacemaker season 2 is simply postponed not cancelled.
All eight episodes of Peacemaker season one are available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
