Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever is the last Marvel film we’re getting this year. So naturally we were expecting there is a lot of buzz around the filming given the special circumstances of the film as well. We got our first trailer of the film and what a trailer it was! The trailer confirmed a lot of things we were suspecting. We official know that T’Challa is dead. The film would start from that point as Wakanda has no ruler. We also got our first glimpse at Namor and Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart. However, along with that we got the first hint at the new Black Panther. The emotional and amazing trailer ends with a brief shot of a new person in the Black Panther suit. In the background, the figure that is getting up from the ground looks like Namor.

So, who is the new Black Panther? Well, we still don’t know. Popular candidates include Shuri, Killmonger, Nakia and M’Baku. However, today we are not here discuss the new Black Panther. We’re here to talk about the leaked runtime of the film and why is it so special?

Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever Beats Eternals’ Runtime!

MCU movies have famously been on the shorter side but it looks like the sequel to Black Panther is not going to be one of them. After a recent update on the Cineplex website, they started displayed the runtime of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. According to the website, the the film’s final runtime will clock at 2 hours and 41 minutes or 161 minutes. This update was further confirmed by Wakanda Forever’s Regal page, which has the exact same runtime.

If this is indeed true then this will make Wakanda Forever the longest non-Avenger MCU film beating out last year’s Eternals that clocked at 2 hours 36 minutes or 156 minutes. Although, it is important to address that the UK based website Cineworld displayed a much shorter runtime of Wakanda Forever @2 hours and 10 minutes or 130 minutes. However, the site has previously gotten information wrong a couple of times. What I want to say is, for now take this with a grain of salt.

Here’s the full list of MCU movie runtimes for comparison:

  • Iron Man – 2 hours, 6 minutes
  • The Incredible Hulk – 1 hour, 52 minutes
  • Iron Man 2 – 2 hours, 4 minutes
  • Thor – 1 hour, 55 minutes
  • Captain America: The First Avenger – 2 hours, 4 minutes
  • The Avengers – 2 hours, 23 minutes
  • Iron Man 3 – 2 hours, 10 minutes
  • Thor: The Dark World – 1 hour, 52 minutes
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier – 2 hours, 16 minutes
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – 2 hours, 1 minute
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron – 2 hours, 21 minutes
  • Ant-Man – 1 hour, 57 minutes
  • Captain America: Civil War – 2 hours, 27 minutes
  • Doctor Strange – 1 hour, 55 minutes
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – 2 hours, 16 minutes
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming – 2 hours, 13 minutes
  • Thor: Ragnarok – 2 hours, 10 minutes
  • Black Panther – 2 hours, 14 minutes
  • Avengers: Infinity War – 2 hours, 29 minutes
  • Ant-Man & the Wasp – 1 hour, 58 minutes
  • Captain Marvel – 2 hours, 3 minutes
  • Avengers: Endgame – 3 hours, 1 minute
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home – 2 hours, 9 minutes
  • Black Widow – 2 hours, 14 minutes
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – 2 hours, 12 minutes
  • Eternals – 2 hours, 36 minutes
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home – 2 hours, 28 minutes
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – 2 hours, 6 minutes

The runtime being that long makes sense as the for first Black Panther too, Coogler had shot footage up to 4 hours but the final cut of the film was only 2 hours and 14 minutes. However, I think this is good news as the shorter runtimes of MCU films often refrain them from reaching their full potential like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that had 40 minutes of the original runtime cut out to make the film shorter and sleeker. This move ruined the film more than it helped it.

Let me know who do you think will be the New Black Panther? Who is the more likely one? Which one do you prefer? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated to release on 11th November 2022.
