The Last of Us is a game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is an action-adventure game where the player controls a smuggler – Joel who has been tasked with escorting Ellie, a teenage girl. The setting of the game is a post-apocalyptic United States of America and is supposed to be played from a third-person perspective. The Last of Us was huge success, to the point where there were quite a few sequels and spin-offs and those too were highly successful. And now, we’re also getting a remake of The Last of Us for the next gen console – PS5. Considering the success of the game and the engaging story, HBO had announced a while back that they’re planning a live-action adaptation of the game.

Even a first look of the show was released but that didn’t seem to satisfy the fans as they are still worried whether the adaptation properly honor the source material? This is risky business to be honest, when you touch something too valuable you often get burned. Just look at Amazon Prime’s LOTR Prequel. Although, that show is getting criticized for good reasons. Considering that HBO is making the adaptation, I was not worried. I have faith in HBO’s creative team that they’ll only ruin the last season of the show. Jokes apart, but HBO really is one of the better networks for such a show. So from experience, HBO has released a new trailer for the show to calm down all the worried fans and trust me its awesome!

The Last of Us Trailer: Does the Adaptation Stays True to the Game?

The trailer begins with Hank Williams’ hauntingly beautiful song- “Alone and Forsaken”. This is song adds another layer to this trailer altogether, not only thematically but also because it was used in the original game as well at a very pivotal moment. We see Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie. The trailer is only 1.48 minutes long but it is absolutely stunning. The trailer is a testament to the quality of the show. I simply hope it lives up to the expectations that the trailer has set.

\It is no surprise that the series is looking so good, apart from HBO being the network who has a great track record with adaptations like Game of Thrones (except the last season) and House of the Dragon, the men behind the camera as well are extremely talented. You might be surprised hearing some of these names. Craig Mazin who made Chernobyl and won multiple Emmys for it is the co-creator of the series. Seeing that Chernobyl also had outbreak of sorts at its center the series can be similar to it in treatment.

Honestly, if the series is anything like Chernobyl, I’m already in love with it. The co-creator of the series as well is the game creator Neil Druckmann. In honor of the franchise’s annual celebration, HBO has released the official The Last of Us trailer. The trailer acts as confirmation that the adaptation is faithful to the source material just like HBO promised and was suggested by set photos that were leaked. Many of the game’s moments would be recreated including the devastating ones as well.

Pedro Pascal leads the cast of The Last of Us as Joel, a smuggler hired to deliver Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, a teenager immune to the Cordyceps brain infection that has wiped out the world, to a group of survivors working to manufacture a cure. Alongside Pascal and Ramsey, the cast for HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation includes Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman and Storm Reid.
