The trailer for Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever promises an emotional and handcrafted film. The film looks like somber and cerebral affair along with being an action-heavy adventure with vivid colors. Needless, to say the film already looks way better than any Marvel content that we’ve gotten this year. I have full faith in Coogler to provide us with an emotional, heartbreaking, layered and an old school Marvel film. The film will cover the aftermath of T’Challa’s death. The film will see characters like Shuri, Queen Ramonda, Nakia, Okoye and M’Baku returning from the first film. However, we will see the film introducing some new faces into the MCU. Namely, the Atlanteans or whatever they’re called in the film. I’m talking about Namor and his army. Speaking of Namor, he is one of the oldest Marvel characters and until now he has not gotten the glory he deserves in the MCU. However, after his debut in the MCU there were many who suspected whether Namor might get a solo film for himself? Let’s find out.
Black Panther 2: Namor Solo Film in Development?
It seems like I’m not the only one who is curious about Namor’s future in the MCU. In an interview with Total Film, Tenoch Huerta who plays Namor the Submariner in the MCU was asked about the character’s future in this universe and his response was hilarious. The actor said, “I hope so! I hope so!! Because I want a bigger contract! I want more zeroes in my contract! No, I’m joking. I mean, the mythology around Namor is huge. You can be crazy with all this cultural aspect, and you can create a lot of things with Namor, because they take a fantastic source of stories and mythology and religion and everything. So I hope they decide to keep going with the character, past its own story or whatever.”
MCU boss Kevin Feigi as well has been quizzed with this Black Panther and Namor question Feigi has been as candid and honest as he can be. Feigi said, “Namor, as the Marvel fans, know is one of, if not the original. He and Human Torch, right? Almost the same time. And so that, for forever, it’s been on our lists. I remember 18 years ago putting together… I think we even commissioned a script 18 years ago and the timing was never right and the idea was never right. Ryan Coogler on the first movie started pitching a war between kingdoms and if you actually added a cultural specificity to Namor and that’s certainly what he’s done in this movie. And it’s not Atlantis, it’s Talocan. And I can’t wait for people to meet the Talocanil and Namor.”
Another Marvel Executive has also revealed about Namor’s future with the MCU, maybe not as explicitly but in his own cryptic way he has hinted that Namor is here to stay and he will get his well deserved solo film very soon. The Exec said, “Well, I obviously I don’t want to talk too much about Phase 5 and even and about Phase 4 tonight. This is really about Wakanda Forever. But the reason this anchors Phase 4, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out soon, is because the Phases are all about introductions, right? And Phase 4 has been all… think of all the characters we’ve met here and now finally in the finale here of Phase 4. Looking at it by Phases, we meet an entire new kingdom and an entire new character, who is is the very foundation of what we do at Marvel.”
Let me know what do you think of the first reactions Do you think Shuri is the new Black Panther? Which one do you prefer? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated to release on 11th November 2022.
