The Fantastic Four are Marvel Comics’ first superhero family and after a long wait they’re finally entering the MCU. They’re definitely one of the most famous Marvel characters in the comics. I would like to say the same about their adaptations but we all know how that story goes. Until now there have been three attempts to make a Fantastic Four film. The first was in way back in 1994, you might not have heard about it. The second attempt was in 2004 and despite the film being absolutely mediocre, it got sequel- Fantastic Four- Rise of the Silver Surfer, which was equally bad if not worse.
The last one, probably the worst attempt was in 2015. Fans had long given up hopes of seeing a good Fantastic Four film but after Disney acquiring Fox, the MCU has their rights. It was very important for Marvel to make their reboot the best out there and given the competition, that shouldn’t be a hard job. Clearly Marvel knows this based on the amount of noise this reboot is bringing in. The news came from San Diego Comic Con’22 when Kevin Feigi announced that there was an official Fantastic Four reboot coming in MCU’s Phase 6.
However, we were unaware of the film’s cast, crew or literally anything else. There have been many names associated to this project, even the great Steven Spielberg was rumored to helm the reboot. Thankfully at Disney’s D23 Expo, Kevin Feigi announced that WandaVision’s director Matt Shakman would be helming the reboot. However, no cast announced even if we all expected it. Regardless, just after a few weeks the reboot has another update. Marvel has decided whom they want to pen down their version of the Fantastic Four. Yes, the reboot has just announced its writers.
Fantastic Four Reboot: Who Are The New Writers?
A new report from Deadline says that Marvel has finally found their writers to pen their version of Fantastic Four. The report also says that the duo has been involved in the project for a while. The two writers that were announced are Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Both of them have been developing and writing the project before Shakman’s involvement. The duo are also outlining where the Fantastic Four fit into the MCU and their future with Kevin Feigi. This duo is fairly new and this Fantastic Four credit would be huge for them and serve as their biggest credit.
Their body of work includes films such as The Last of the Great Romantics, Bert and Arnie’s Guide to Friendship, and they also wrote the script for the upcoming Warner Bros. film Disaster Weddings from Palm Springs director Max Barbakow. Considering that the whole creative team is on board now, Shakman will start searching for the cast of Fantastic Four. With the release date of 2024, the cast should be decided latest by early 2023 and with Q2 or Q3 reserved for principal photography.
It is clear that the Fantastic Four would play a huge role in Marvel’s Multiverse Saga and whatever will start in Phase 4 considering the caution and care with which Marvel are approaching their entity. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would naturally have a huge part for Fantastic Four as Kang is nothing but a 31st century descendent of Reed Richards. This bit of information makes them more important than what you’ve previously thought.
The Fantastic Four reboot is slated to release in theatres on 8th November 2024.
