The Fantastic Four reboot has had its fair share of ups and downs. The Matt Shakman directorial is in search of its actors for a while now. It seems like Marvel has knocked on everyone’s door but no one has answered or Marvel just isn’t confirming anything with us. For a while now, we’ve heard that Adam Driver was going to be Marvel’s Mr. Fantastic and alongside him, Vanessa Kirby would play Sue Storm. Kirby was in talks after Margot Robbie and Jodie Comer refused the part. For a film supposed to be so important for Marvel, it is weird that the casting is not through yet. The studio is truly going through terrible phase. After being shot down by Adam Driver and many other big names, Marvel is now approaching a huge TV star. Who? Matt Smith.
Fantastic Four: Adam Driver Out, Matt Smith In?
On Patreon scooper Daniel RPK claimed that House of the Dragon and Doctor Who star Matt Smith is in talks to play Reed Richards in Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot. Reportedly the actor was the last one to get an offer before the SAG-AFTRA strike commenced. Streamr Entertainment got in touch with representatives of Matt Smith in order to comment on the rumors. In a post on X (previously known as Twitter), the outlet revealed that Smith was not cast. Here is the full statement:
“We have independently confirmed with Matt Smith’s reps that, as of June 28th 2023, he was not cast as Reed Richards in the upcoming ‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ film.”
Disappointing, right? Not so much. The outlet reached out to the reps once again on August 2nd 2023 i.e., yesterday and instead of a straight up denial or confirmation they were left with a vague no comments remark.
“We again reached out today and, instead of a confirmation or flat out denial as was previously made, we were told, ‘No comment,’ on whether Matt Smith was cast in the upcoming ‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ movie.”
The Fantastic Four reboot is slated to release in theatres on May 2nd 2025.
