Fantastic Four Steven Spielberg to Direct the MCU Film

Just yesterday we got the news that Ryan Gosling is likely to be sucked into the MCU very soon. However, now it feels like they’re not just  bringing in big actors but also big directors like Chloe Zhao for Eternals and Sam Raimi for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The next MCU project is the long awaited debut of the Fantastic Four. Marvel is trying to keep the Fantastic Four film under the wraps. We know its happening but they’re simply not owning it. However, today we have some on who might direct this film. The name will shock you. Rumor has it that Hollywood great Steven Spielberg might helm the Fantastic Four film.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe was known to make films that were guaranteed to be delightful and brilliant. However, today as it is in Phase 4 I think Marvel’s most loyal fans will also agree that the studio has found itself in a bit of pickle. The last 6 movies of the MCU has failed to garner the same critical accolades it previously did. The TV shows too, except for Loki, are mediocre. Many are calling this Marvel’s flop phase. The Box Office performance of the films is dipping as well, Spider-Man: No Way Home being the only exception. Considering this, it looks like MCU has adopted a new strategy. Bringing in as many Hollywood A-listers as possible. Eternals bringing Angelina Jolie to the MCU, Blade being played by Mahershala Ali and Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac.

Marvel has pitched a Fantastic Four film to Steven Spielberg?

When Disney had finally bought Fox, giving Marvel some of its most valuable Superheroes back, the question was raised- Which Superhero will debut in the MCU first? Many suspected the X-Men and Fantastic Four to be the first priority. They were, while we don’t know about an X-Men film, we’re aware that Marvel is making a Fantastic Four film. The director of Marvel’s Spider-Man Trilogy- Jon watts was supposed to direct to the reboot. John Krasinski had a cameo in Multiverse of Madness as well but it is unclear whether he’ll return.

However, Jon Watts recently stepped down from the project  in April 2022 as he wanted a break from the Superhero realm. Although he thanked Marvel the work they’ve done together, “I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life.” After Watts departure Marvel is trying to find a replacement but sadly hasn’t been able to.

That might change now, Mike Sampson, a former marketing director at Montclair Film, shared the rumor on Twitter.

So, yes if you momentarily had your hopes high that Spielberg might just make a Marvel film and pull them out of the slump they’ve been in, I’m sorry. Spielberg is one of the biggest and the most successful filmmaker of the Modern Era. The director has made mass entertaining films like Jurassic Park, Jaws and E.T. but along with that his filmography includes gut-wrenching dramas for which he has won Three Academy Awards. People dream of getting one. He is truly a legend in every right and Marvel would’ve been lucky to have him.

Steven Spielberg has denied to direct the Fantastic Four film and Marvel’s search for the film’s director continues. Who do you think should direct the Fantastic Four film? Would you want to see a Spielberg directed MCU film?

Steven Spielberg’s next and probably his last film- The Fabelmans is slated to release on November 11th 2022.
