Summer is upon us and if that is any indication then it means that the big blockbusters which makes the studios thrive are about to come out. It is truly a joyful time at the theatres as entertainment is in abundance. Marvel despite its mediocre content definitely wants to capitalize this time. The third and final installment of the James Gunn’s written and directed franchise Guardians of the Galaxy has released in theatres near you today. The reviews for Vol. 3 have thus far been great, however, it is clear that the newest Marvel film is the weakest of the trilogy. However, that still makes it the best Marvel movie since Endgame. Just like the reviews, the box office projections for Vol. 3 are also lower in comparison to Vol. 2. Let’s see why?
Despite The Hype Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Opens Low At The Box Office!
For the first time in over a month’s time, the box office would not be ruled by Universal Pictures and Nintendo’s The Super Mario Bros. film. The animated juggernaut featuring Nintendo’s mascot has collected over $1 billion worldwide, making it the first movie of 2023, to achieve this feat. Unfortunately, the film will lose its #1 spot this weekend to Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, despite the hype for the threequel, the box office projections of the film have been surprisingly low.
Vol. 3 has already collected $14 million in previews which is quite good on its own but in comparison to Vol. 2 is less. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had collected $17 million in previews and $146.5 million in its opening weekend. The opening weekend projections for Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3 are somewhere between $110 million and $130 million. It looks like the disappointment caused by Marvel to the fans is finally starting to affect them as the hype for the film is not converting into box office numbers anymore.
