Loki Season 2 Sets Up A Major Thor 5 Character Balder the Brave Baldur

While Loki is certainly the best MCU Disney Plus series yet, it is not what you expect from a show titled “Loki”. When we hear Loki, two things pop into our minds aka Norse Mythology and Thor’s brother. Well, Disney Plus Loki, as you know, is nothing like that and is in fact, more of a set up for Marvel’s upcoming multi-versal war. And while it is really good at what it is, fans looking for mythology and comic centric Thor content seem to be starved right now. Well, it seems like Loki Season 2 just set up one of the major Norse Gods and Thor Comics character – Balder The Brave!

Loki Sets Up Balder the Brave’s MCU Adaptation in Thor 5

Some of you might have noticed how Loki Season 2 Episode 3 addressed a major missing Thor character. Yes, we are talking about Balder the Brave aka Thor’s half-brother and Odin’s eldest son. Balder or Baldur or Baldr is the Norse God of Light, Beauty, and Courage who is gifted with invulnerability to all things except Mistletoe. Being nigh-invulnerable, he is one of the most powerful Norse Gods and hence his absence has been a subject of debate among fans. Well, MCU has finally addressed Balder as Loki sees his statue and points out “Why have they included Balder, who’s even heard of him?” to which Mobius replies, “Sure I have, Balder the Brave!”

As it happens, initially, Balder was supposed to appear in all 3 of the first MCU Thor movies, which Graham Churchyard the costume designer confirmed earlier. However, that didn’t happen and it was actually a huge missed opportunity for largely mediocre Thor films. He should most definitely been in Thor: Ragnarok as in mythology as well as comics, because his death was quintessential in kicking off Ragnarok. But considering how MCU never went the comics way when it comes to Thor, this doesn’t come off as a surprise.

God of War fans here might be fully aware of the might and importance of Balder in the Norse saga, as he was the main antagonist of the first game whose death kicked off Ragnarok in the sequel. Well, it still isn’t too late to introduce him to the MCU as Thor franchise is struggling after the horrendous Thor 4 and MCU is now looking for a tone change in Thor 5. Although, Thor 4’s post credit scene set up Hercules, that doesn’t mean we still can’t see Balder in in the film. In fact, Thor might need to team up with him to take on / make peace with the Gods of Olympus. Thor, sure would be thrilled to learn if he’s elder brother is alive somewhere.

Loki Season 2 Episode 5 is all set to release on Nov 3 only on Disney Plus.
