The Sandman Season 2 All New Cast and Characters Including Destruction

Netflix’ The Sandman season 1 opened to widely positive reviews and since then, has developed a cult following. The first season debuted back in August 2023 with 11 episodes and though it was not the best superhero show, it was certainly a unique one. Based on DC Comics, it tells the story of Morpheus, the personification of dreams and one of the seven Endless, escapes from captivity and sets out to restore order to his realm, the Dreaming. While there were rumors that The Sandman Season 2 has been cancelled, they were quickly debunked, and here’s all you need to know about the upcoming season.

The Sandman Season 2 All New Cast and Characters

First of all, some of the surviving cast from season 1 will return in season 2. These include Tom Sturridge as Morpheus/Dream, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Donna Preston as Despair, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven, Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain, and Asim Chaudhry as Able. Now let us talk about the new cast members we’ll be seeing in Netflix’ The Sandman Season 2.

  • Barry Sloane cast as Destruction – One of the 7 endless and the brother of Dream.
  • Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus, Dream’s son
  • Daphne Alexander potentially as Bromnie aka Element Girl
  • Tafline Steen as Xanth which a codename probably hinting at a Maenad
  • Charlotte Bate as Talley
  • Amber Rose Revah in an undisclosed role
  • Esme Creed-Miles in an undisclosed role
  • Adrian Lester in an undisclosed role

Them aside, we’ll be seeing characters who were name dropped by Dream in the last season and are apparently close to him – Delirium, and Destiny. The two of them are a part of the 7 endless as well. Since we have already seen 4 of them, and Destruction has been casted, we are pretty sure we’ll be seeing the remaining two as well. We’ll also be seeing Wanda, a favorite amongst fans of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman comic who will be making her onscreen debut in season 2. Aside from this, it’s really hard to predict which characters we’ll be seeing as The Sandman is often split into multiple arcs and sometimes tends not to operate in a linear manner. So, unless things are official, it would be useless to speculate ‘who might be’ among the endless possibilities.

When Will Season 2 Release on Netflix?

After the critical success of The Sandman, it was renewed by Netflix for a Season 2 in November 2022. After that began the rumors of season 2 being canned by Netflix. As it happens, Netflix also toyed with fans by providing them absolutely no updates before revealing in April 2023 that the scripts were ready. During a Q/A, Neil Gaiman answered fans, “Scripts are written. We are casting the first episode we will be shooting. Sets are being designed.” Then at the end of June we got updates that the filming for season 2 had begun. In fact, we also got to see the first look of Tom Sturridge in full costume ready to play the Dream of the Endless aka Morpheus in Season 2. We’ll talk more about this in the following section but first, let us talk about the release.

So, even though the filming began in June, it was quicky halted next month due to the WAG and SAG-Strikes. Speaking on the matter Gaiman made it clear that, “Whether or not any of ‘Sandman’ is delayed depends on how long the strike goes. And there won’t be scab scripts on Sandman.” Once the filming resumes, it will go on for 9-10 months just like season 1 and then there’ll be a few month of post production as well. So, even if the SAG-AFTRA strikes end next month itself, we won’t be getting Season 2 before at least mid 2025.
