Marvel's Eternals vs Avenger's Thor, Captain Marvel, and Hulk

Marvel’s Eternals might not be the best MCU film, but it surely is one of the most talked about MCU films. Be it fan rants, controversies, Harry Styles, or cult appreciation, Eternals is blowing the internet off. Ever since it was released on Disney Plus and made available to all, people can’t stop talking about it. One of these topics of discussion is just how powerful Eternals are and how do they fare against the Avengers.

Eternals vs Avengers

Eternals were introduced to us as exceptionally formidable beings who are technically immortal but can die in battle. But from what we saw in the film, it didn’t seem like any of them would present a challenge for the Avengers. So, to make things fair it is important to rule out the OP Avengers from the rooster. So, here we bid goodbye to Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff, and other mystical superheroes.

Also, be it one on one or a team battle, most of the weak ones would be eliminated so lets just compare the strongest of them. So, from the Eternals side the strongest characters with immense raw power were Ikaris, Gilgamesh, and Thena. On the Avengers side, the strongest characters with immense raw power were Thor, Captain Marvel, and Hulk. For this comparison let us stick to the MCU versions of the characters and not comics. So let the test of strength begin!

Thena

Thena, the goddess of war and the first cousin of the Mad Titan Thanos is a force to be reckoned with. She not only defeated the deviant boss Kro but was the member Ikaris respected the most. Thena’s combat skills were way more polished and precise than Captain Marvel, Hulk, or Ikaris for that matter. Most of these heroes rely on raw strength than skills. While there is no doubt Captain Marvel and Hulk can defeat Thena, but that would be owing to their powers alone.

A more interesting battle would be with Thor. Thor vs Thena would not just be a battle of power but also skills. Both these Godly warriors spent years training and combating so they would probably engage in proper combat rather than throwing punches. It would be interesting to see who would win a battle between them if only skills are concerned. But we all know ultimately Thor will emerge victorious given his strength, endurance and magical powers.

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh was an Eternal who posed serious threats to Ikaris’ plan, so he decided to get him out of the equation before-hand. He was a powerhouse and if Ikaris faced him in the final battle along with the whole team, he wouldn’t have succeeded. This speaks volumes about the strength of Gilgamesh. Still, Thor and Captain Marvel will be too much for our loving member of the Eternals.

So, here the interesting battle will be with Hulk. Gilgamesh vs The Incredible Hulk will be a battle of punches and smashes. Gilgamesh being well trained in combat can be a pain for Hulk though. We have seen how Thanos beat the crap out of Hulk using his combat skills, while Hulk was just relying on smash, punch, smash logic. MCU’s Hulk hasn’t quite achieved the feats of strength as much as the comics. In fact, we have seen Hulk in his prime lose to Iron Man (Hulkbuster Armor), Thor, and Thanos. So, considering that and Gilgamish’ Battle experience, I’d call them stalemates.

Ikaris

Let’s get down to the real business, Marvel’s Superman – Ikaris, who was without doubt the strongest member of Eternals. He came out the victor in fight against more than half of his team and bested all deviants he fought. Even to commit suicide, this powerhouse had to fly into the Sun. He would prove quite a lot of challenge for each of the top 3 Avengers on this list. Yet the only battle he might win would be against the Hulk, because of his superior powers, abilities, and combat skills.

Interesting battles here would be Ikaris vs Thor or Captain Marvel. His battle with Captain Marvel will probably end in a draw because they have quite similar set of abilities. But it is also possible that he loses to Denvers as she seems quite indestructible. She posed a serious threat to Thanos and he had to use the power stone just to shake her. So, she might come on top of Ikaris if they go head-to-head.

Once again, the most interesting battle would be him against Thor, which sparks the old Thor vs Superman debate.

But Ikaris ain’t Superman and has a quite less endurance and strength compared to Sups. Thor is the better trained individual among them, but his strength varies. Ikaris might be able to defeat the Endgame’s fat Thor but Infinity War’s prime Thor is a different deal altogether. That Thor managed to deflect the power of 6 Infinity Stones and hurt Thanos pretty badly. God of Thunder in his prime is bad news for most creatures in the universe, so I’d call this battle a stalemate. But again, Ikaris might get the better of pre-Ragnarok and post Infinity War Thor.

So, in the end as powerful as Eternals are, none of them would be too much for Thor, Hulk and Captain Marvel. Bring Doctor Strange and Wanda into the equation, and they don’t stand a chance.
