Ms. Marvel has ended its run this season and the show left fans gasping in excitement with one of the biggest reveal in the final episode. It also showed X-men were close to make their presence known in the MCU as the Mutant explanation for Kamala’s origins is accompanied by 1990s “X-Men” theme music . The show’s ‘Mutant’ twist sparked online storms and discussions across the MCU fandoms in various social media platforms. The creator shared her views on the finale twist in a recent interview with Variety.
Ms. Marvel Mutant Twist Was Not A Part of Original Plans
According to the creator Bisha K. Ali, Kamala being a mutant is something that was not planned from the beginning and while trying to crack Kamala’s origins different from comics where she’s an inhuman, the showrunner has tried to go for a different approach for the MCU. Kamala’s origins as Djinn/Clandestines only served as a diversion to keep the mutant twist under wraps until the end.
“Close to absolutely nothing. One of the puzzles that we had from the beginning was we know her powers are inherited in the TV show and the thing with inheritance is it leaves you with that pesky question of “Well, if they’re inherited, everyone in that lineage should have them.” And that was something that we’re toying with ways of approaching. And then a solution arrived!”
Kevin Feige’s Plans for X-Men Are Unknown
Bisha K. Ali also revealed that how the Ms. Marvel finale twist of Kamala being the first known Mutant in the MCU so far is going to impact other plans for the superhero universe that Kevin Feige is cooking up.
“I don’t know how it fits into the larger MCU. I genuinely can’t answer that. Not because I’m lying. Because I don’t know. Kevin is doing whatever Kevin’s up to — who knows? The man’s full of mysteries. It just was this perfect piece. But the fact that we get to roll out this part of the MCU in our show, my nerd heart could not be more thrilled.”
