Ms. Marvel: Kamran and His Mother Explained

The second episode of Ms. Marvel dropped on Wednesday, June 15, and it presents a solid follow-up to the mystery around Kamala’s story and her family. Not only that but Episode 2 also introduces some new characters. To know more about who they are and will they be able to provide answers to the viewers’ doubts, keep reading! Obviously, spoilers for Episode 2 follow below, so read at your own risk.

The episode introduces Kamran (Rish Shah), a student at Kamala’s school on whom she starts crushing hard. He teaches her to drive in his uncle’s expensive car, and they share their love for similar music and movies, bringing about an easy bond between them. Kamala has no idea that Kamran knows a lot more about her than she does about him.

Who Is Ms. Marvel’s Kamran Really & Who Is His Mother?

During the episode’s climax, Kamala is chased and ambushed by Damage Control agents. Kamran comes to the rescue and gives her a ride away from Damage Control, which has her cornered. Kamala is surprised to find that Kamran seems unfazed by her superhero outfit. Moreover, another strangely recognizable person is seen sitting in the rear of his car, whom Kamran introduces as his mother, Najma. It turns out that Kamran’s mother is the same woman who appeared in Kamala’s visions since she started wearing her grandmother’s bracelet.

Ms. Marvel episode 2 sets the stage for a fascinating and thrilling continuation of the show, particularly regarding who Kamran is and why Damage Control is so determined to get hold of Kamala. While Kamran appears to be the perfect match for Kamala at first, he is clearly not entirely truthful to her, and there is much more to the guy than meets the eye. Kamala’s and Kamran’s families seem to be old acquaintances in the comics, although Kamran’s family shifted from New Jersey when he was still young. Years later, when they returned to Jersey City, Kamran was impacted by the Terrigen blast, the same one that had given Kamala her Inhuman powers. Following that, Kamran can now emit a bioluminescent glow while also discharging biokinetic energy.

How Are These Characters Different From The Marvel Comic Books?

In the comic books, Kamala and Kamran have a romantic relationship similar to that of the series; however, in the books, Kamran kidnaps Kamala and takes her to the villain Lineage, another Terrigen bomb victim who is a member of a group known as the NuHumans (Inhumans born on earth). In the show, too, Kamala drives away with Kamran unaware, presenting the audience with a dangerous possibility for the upcoming episode.

Bushra is Kamran’s mother in the comic books, though her role in them appears to be much smaller than it is in the series. This isn’t entirely shocking, given the adjustments made to Kamala Khan’s heroic backstory for her MCU debut. Though the Marvel Universe has frequently drawn inspiration from comic books, it has never created an exact copy. The surprise with Kamran’s mother is just the kind of exciting twist that viewers will appreciate. So far, all we know is that Kamala’s and Kamran’s families are likely to be intertwined, as the bracelet that helped Kamala access her talents previously belonged to her great-grandmother.

The upcoming episodes will undoubtedly reveal more about Kamala’s family history and how Kamran and his mother are connected to them. Episode 2 of Ms. Marvel was just as entertaining as the first and has set the stage for a lot more mystery and excitement!

Ms. Marvel Episode 3 will be released on June 22, Wednesday.
