Taika Waititi Only Joined MCU For Money!

Taika Waititi has been on a trip of his own. The New Zealand filmmaker has been in Hollywood for a while. He has been a part of many movies and TV shows in his 20 year long career including Reservation Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows, Our Flag Means Death, Jojo Rabbit and many more. The filmmaker found home in Marvel Studios in 2017, who trusted him to direct their third Thor movie that turned out to be a massive success. Later Waititi also returned to direct the follow-up film Thor: Love and Thunder for the studio that wasn’t as successful and faced backlash from fans for poor content quality. After his stint at Marvel ended, the filmmaker revealed that he was thinking of retirement from Hollywood, which came as a surprise to everyone. However, recently the filmmaker has revealed even more surprising statements, one of which his revolves around his reason to join Marvel.

Taika Waititi Extends His Marvel Hate!

In a recent interaction, director Taika Waititi has revealed that he only joined the MCU for the money. His exact words were, “I had no interest in doing one of those films … But I was poor … and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed [my] children.” Waititi didn’t stop there and further expressed his negative thoughts about the Thor character, “And ‘Thor,’ let’s face it — it was probably the least popular franchise. I never read ‘Thor’ comics as a kid”

These comments are shocking. It is hard to believe Waititi has come out and spoken in such a manner about his Thor movies. Even though, the frustration of a filmmaker with a studio like Marvel is quite understandable and one can address the concerns and possible wrongdoings of the studio in public however, these comments are in bad taste as he is reducing his own movies to simple cash grabs. The work one does at the time of need should be owned by the individual rather than criticizing it in such a distasteful manner.

Also, if he is saying all this based on Thor: Love and Thunder then we highly doubt that Marvel forced him to make a spoof in the name of a film. He took his liberty and made a film he wished for. He made it for himself and he should at least accept it regardless of the film’s performance.
