Based on the teaser trailer we saw, the entire premise of The Marvels‘ trailer is simply to show us how Captain Marvel’s, Ms. Marvel’s and Captain Rambeau’s powers are entangled and what a mess it is causing. There is a fun teenage vibe to the trailer. I sense it is because of Ms. Marvel. I appreciated the Beatles song playing in the background, it went well with the visuals of the trailer. I don’t think so Marvel has revealed much plot details in the trailer as everything was just related to how do they stop being swapped all the time. I think this is another trailer from Marvel which does a good job to get us excited about the movie. However, I hope the film doesn’t disappoint us as it has become a Marvel trend to have a better trailer than the movie. Although, it looks like some fans aren’t worried about the film but have some serious problem with the teaser trailer it self as they are dislike-bombing it on YouTube.
Why Are Fans Dislike-Bombing The Marvels Teaser?
It appears as if some Marvel fans have some serious problem with The Marvels teaser as they’re dislike-bombing the new trailer to express their hate and outrage regarding the project- in an attempt to make its overall score lower. This form of protest while valid at most times, but in this particular case seems unnecessary and for the wrong reasons. The trailer, which garnered 7.6M views in just 11 hours, received 214K dislikes on Marvel Entertainment’s YouTube channel, compared to 318K likes.
This hate isn’t because of a creative blunder from Marvel, some fans are upset over Marvel as they believe that this another film that is promoting Marvel’s woke agenda as the film seems to revolve around three female superheroes. This is a political statement from fans. One fan commented named __THE_UFO__ commented on YouTube, claiming that the footage is full of “wokeness:” “With great wokeness comes great brokeness and fatigue.” Imprime spitefully expressed their hope for the film to “flop:”
“Barely made it through the trailer. Can’t wait for the reviews when it flops, it will be hilarious.” These were simply our top picks there were many such comments. Now, you guys might say that the teaser wasn’t very good anyways and hence the backlash makes sense. However, to ensure that this backlash nothing to do with the quality of the teaser here are some stats. The trailer for Shazam 2 was criticized by fans as it revealed too much of the plot of the movie and overall was not considered great yet it didn’t get as many dislikes on YouTube. The Shazam 2 trailer only received 11K dislikes on the video platform despite it having 18M views.
I will give a more radical example to make things very clear. Morbius is considered to be one of the worst comic book movies to have come out in the last 20 years. Fans had started complaining about the film’s quality from the onset of the trailer and yet there are not as many dislikes. The trailer only received 11K dislikes with 24M views on the video.
Now, to conclude I will give one more stat. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law which another female led Marvel project faced a similar rejection from the audience. Now I agree that the series was one of the worst things Marvel has done in a while but I have to admit the first few episodes were decent. It all went downhill after that. The trailer for the show was heavily criticized for its VFX which was valid but also for its political wokeness. At the trailer stage, we didn’t know whether the show will be this bad but still the trailer on YouTube received 302K dislikes with 25M views. I think this is saying a lot.
The rejection of female led superheroes movies is not healthy as it reflects the insecurity of some people to even watch content where women are at the forefront. This extremism has caused unfair biases in society. I understand criticizing a film even for its political statements but The Marvels is being unfairly targeted simply because it has three female stars? What is so wrong about that? If the criticism would have come after the watching the movie where this somehow deteriorated the film’s quality then I would’ve understood. Honestly, this is simply an extravagant exaggeration from right wingers who are clearly insecure about their beliefs.
The Marvels is slated to release in theatres near you on 10th November 2023.
