HBO was unsure about the Game of Thrones universe after the nightmare that Season 8 was. The audience was so thoroughly disappointed in the makers that the network was unsure whether they’d like to invest anymore in Game of Thrones prequels or spin-offs because the audience might simply reject it in GOT PTSD. However, everything changes after House of the Dragon. The tumultuous success of the prequel gave HBO a sense of assurity that  the audiences are still in love with Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon’s pilot became HBO Max’s biggest debut with 10 Million viewers. The most recent ratings reports suggests that the prequel has garnered an audience of 29 Million on an average which is the best for any show after Game of Thrones’ Season 8 which had 44 Million viewers on an average. So, considering everything HBO has greenlit another Game of Thrones prequel.

Game of Thrones – A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms TV Show Greenlit!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the new Game of Thrones prequel greenlit by HBO which is based on Tales of Dunk and Egg. The series will debut on HBO’s combined streaming service which has been rebranded as “Max”. Currently titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night, it features a knight named Ser Dungeon the Tall and his squire Aegon V Targaryen, also known as Egg. The official synopsis of the show reads:

“A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The events of the series will take place 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Steve Conrad has joined the project as writer and executive producer. Writer George R.R. Martin is attached to the series as a writer and executive producer, as is House of the Dragon co-executive producer Ira Parker. The show will try to replicate the success of House of the Dragon but it will be very difficult to do so. There is no official release date or window. When it does arrive, it will be on Max, which launches on May 23.

All 8 Seasons of Game of Thrones and Ten episodes of House of the Dragon Season One are currently streaming on HBO Max or Disney+ depending on the region where you live.
