Carol Denvers is all set to return in The Marvels (Captain Marvel 2) alongside Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau. The Marvels is all set to release in fall 2023 and will showcase the further adventures of the Captain Marvel family. Ms. Marvel finale had just one post credit scene where Captain Marvel (Carol Denvers) suddenly appeared in Kamala’s room! This can be explained by her switching places with Kamala Khan due to some connection the bangle formed between them. This directly tied Ms. Marvel to The Marvels and the film will also be tied to Secret Invasion as Nick Fury will be a part of the film. As it happens, a new leak has revealed the MCU debut of a fan favorite X-Men character!
The Marvels Ties MCU to the X-Men Universe
The concept of post credit scenes was popularized by the MCU and except Avengers: Endgame, there is no MCU film that doesn’t feature at least one post-credit scene. Same is the case for the upcoming MCU Phase 5 film, The Marvels and it will reportedly feature not one but two post credit scenes. Both of these scenes will play a vital role in setting up the future of MCU. So, if you are some who doesn’t mind spoilers, you can proceed with this article as it consists of detailed description for both the post credit scenes in the Marvels.
Let us talk about the mid-credits scene first. At the end, when the Captain Marvel family successfully stop the Incursion, Monica gets stuck in another universe and yes, she ends up in the X2 universe! Here she meets with Kelsey Grammer’s Beast and new Maria Rambeau variant. While talking, they’re reportedly under the X-Mansion. You may remember Kelsey Grammer played the role of Beast in Fox Studios’ X-Men: The Last Stand. This will officially open MCU’s door to X-Men universe after teasing us multiple times in WandaVision, Doctor Strange 2, and Kamala Khan’s mutant reveal. The mid credits scene has reportedly been changed at the very last minute in the test screenings, fans were shown a different scene.
As reported earlier, Monica was initially supposed to wake up in a hospital and see her mom, Maria, dressed in the Captain Marvel costume that she donned in Multiverse of Madness. It wasn’t implied that this is Earth-838 unless Monica also travelled back in time, but rather another universe where Maria also happens to be Captain Marvel. The scene also was supposed to draw a parallel to episode 4 of WandaVision where Monica wakes in a hospital to find her mom gone. However, now the scene has been changed possibly to create more hype around the film.
As for the second post credit scene, in an homage to the opening of Ms. Marvel, The Marvels starts with Kamala narrating the events of the movie. But this time around, it wasn’t for a YouTube video of hers. In a similar manner with Iron Man 3, The Marvels’ last post-credits scene reveals that Kamala was actually narrating the events of the movie to someone else and that person is… KATE BISHOP aka the new Hawkeye.
Hailee Steinfeld makes a cameo in the scene in her full Hawkeye suit and gear as Kamala recounts her latest adventure. At the end, Kamala says that there are more young heroes like them and they should all team up, ending the scene by asking Kate “Did you know Ant-Man had a daughter?” This scene obviously teases the eventual formation of the Young Avengers and it seems Kamala, Kate and Cassie will be the first 3 members.
The Marvels is set to release in theaters on July 28, 2023.
