The Marvels was the last theatrical release for MCU in 2023. The film was led by the female trio of Captain Marvel, Captain Rambeau and Ms. Marvel. However, at its core the film was a sequel to the 2019 Captain Marvel that grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. Sadly, unlike its predecessor The Marvels couldn’t engross the audience in theatres. The film made on a staggering budget of $275 million only grossed $205.8 million, making it the lowest earning MCU film ever. Forget about profits, the film didn’t even manage to break even. Critically too, the film impressed no one. Least to say, the last outing for MCU in 2023 was a disappointing one. To make up their losses, the studio is taking a new route by making the film available for digital purchase. To know more, keep reading below.
You Can Finally Watch The Marvels At Home!
When To Stream reveals that The Marvels will now be available for purchase on digital and VOD platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and Apple iTunes from January 16th, 2024. The film premiered in theatres on November 10th, 2023 which means that Marvel Studios took 67 days to launch the films on digital platforms despite its underwhelming box office performance. MCU’s other two releases Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had similar online release timelines.
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: 59 days (Theatrical release – February 17th, 2023 & Digital release: April 18th, 2023)
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: 63 days (Theatrical release – May 5th, 2023 & Digital release: July 7th, 2023)
However, one has to note that GOTG Vol. 3 was a successful venture at the box office and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania did fairly good as well. It looks like regardless of the film’s box office performance, Marvel Studios has decided to stick to a similar online release timeline. Based on that, we can predict that The Marvels will have its physical media release sometime in February. As for the streaming release date, Marvel generally follows a 90 days window which sets The Marvels streaming debut on Disney+ around mid February 2024.
