Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell have joined the MonsterVerse series that focuses on Godzilla and the Titans, according to a recent announcement from Apple TV+. After Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ dramatic ending, the series intends to expand the Legendary cinematic universe by bringing a fresh outlook on all the incredible creatures that live on Earth.
The Father-Son Duo Board Legendary TV’s Godzilla and the Titans
Kurt Russell has been one of Hollywood’s biggest names for over four decades, best known for timeless films like Escape from New York, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China. Kurt Russell has recently appeared in movies, including Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and F9. Kurt Russell’s involvement in the Godzilla and the Titans series is yet another proof that the upcoming series is doing everything possible to make it a worthy addition to the MonsterVerse.
On the other hand, Wyatt Russell recently played the role of John Walker, a wannabe-Captain America, in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Blockbusters from Wyatt Russell’s career include the critically acclaimed miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven and the horror movie Overlord.
Apple TV+ has provided no information regarding what roles the Russells would be playing. However, following the devastation of San Francisco at the end of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the show will follow a family as they attempt to make sense of a world populated by monsters. Therefore, it would be interesting if it created its emotionally complex family using the real-life father-son dynamic between Kurt and Wyatt.
Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) co-created the Godzilla and the Titans TV series, with Black also serving as the showrunner. Matthew Shakman, who received an Emmy nomination for his work on Marvel Studios’ WandaVision, is expected to direct the first two episodes. Other talented actors in the Godzilla and the Titans series include Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.
The official synopsis of the show reads: “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that levelled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the untitled series will explore one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”
