Ms. Marvel Episode 4 Takes Us To Karachi, Pakistan
The episode begins with Kamala and her family arriving in Karachi and being greeted by Kamala’s Nani. The ambience set by this episode was excellent and I absolutely adored all Karachi B-Rolls. Being an Indian, it is always great to see inclusion of Indo-Pakistani culture in any production domestic or international. The chase scene towards the end was executed brilliantly and showcased something even Bollywood and Pakistani movies fail to. The narrow roads and ally in the country leave little to no space for a high budget chase sequences, but Marvel Studios managed to pull it of brilliantly.
That aside, they perfectly nailed market place settings, restaurants and overall production design of the show. The action sequences were incredible as well and a hell of an upgrade from previous episodes. The plot is also now nearing its culmination and Kamala understands her origin in detail with the help of her Nani and unexpected allies in the form of Red Daggers. This brings us to the next portion of the article.
Who Are Red Daggers?
Viewers witnessed Kamala battling an unknown ninja towards the opening of the episode who turns out to be a member of Red Daggers. Kareem, nicknamed Kimo, later befriends her and takes her to Waleed portrayed by Farhan Akhtar, one of the biggest Bollywood actor, director, and producer of the modern era. Waleed explains to Kamala, the origin of Clanderstines as well as the Red Dagger who are sworn to protect the world from them. In an extended cameo, much like The Ancient One, he helps Kamala understand her powers and gift her a green robe to welcome her as one of them. He also explains to her how the Bangle she posses has greater role to play and how she must always protect it.
This is interrupted by a Clandestine attack, where Waleed makes his last stand to protect Kamala and Kareem. The chase sequence mentioned above results in the death of Waleed and something mind-boggling. After killing Waleed, Najma attacks Kamala who blocks it with her bangle and as a result, she is teleported to the past. To be clear, she is transported to the partition time (1946-47), where the division of India and Pakistan, orchestrated by the cursed British Empire, resulted in a series of bloody and horrifying events.
She is seen climbing on top of one of the last trains to Pakistan during the partition and masses of people are struggling to get on it. The next episode could be a depressing one if they dwell too much into the Partition of India but I highly doubt that. So, in short Kamala has now been sent to the past and there she will get a much deeper understanding of her family history. The penultimate episode might turn out to be incredible and set up the finale where everything will come together.
Final Verdict – Ms. Marvel’s trip to Karachi was a really successful one, full of action, character development, and a long awaited plus well executed cameo by Farhan Akhtar!
