A rejoicing news for Star Wars lovers, the third episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi packed a surprise with the return of fan-favorite and very much beloved James Earl Jones, voicing Lord Vader. The episode debuted few hours ago saw Vader talking to Reva the inquisitor in a holo-conference about Obi-Wan.

James Earl Jones Returns In Obi-Wan Kenobi

Jones is currently 91 years old and the veteran actor first lended his voice to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, back in 1977, though he didn’t physically portray the role of Vader, the duty which befell to actor David Prowse in the original trilogy and to Hayden Christensen in the prequels and Obi-Wan Kenobi series. He then returned to voice the role for the sequels, ‘The Empire Strikes Back (1980)’ and ‘Return of the Jedi (1983)’.

Although uncredited, Revenge of the Sith (2005), the last prequel which focuses on the origins of the Vader and Anakin’s turn to dark side has Jones voice appearing at the end with Vader’s cry of grief. Jones further did voice work for the Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007) video game and ventured into Star Wars Animation universe, with Star Wars Rebels(2014-2016). He actively reprised his role once again for Rouge One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and the last sequel to the original trilogy, Rise of the Skywalker (2019) in a voice cameo.

Due to his age, Jones let others take over the role of voicing Vader in some Star Wars properties. Jones is also known for voicing the iconic character Mufasa in both The Lion King(1994) animation film and live-action film released in 2019. Jones involvement in the Kenobi series is not something Star Wars fans were initially anticipating, as there was no indication previously in the cast announcement or at Star Wars celebration event which took place recently that he would return to voice Vader.
