The Last of Us Episode 2 Sees A Significant Rise In Viewership Numbers

Chernobyl creator and writer Craig Mazin who won multiple Emmys for the series has come out with a new show which itself is adaptation of a highly popular game created by Neil Druckmann, who is also the co-creator of the show. Seeing that Chernobyl also had outbreak of sorts at its center the series can be similar to it in treatment. Honestly, if the series is anything like Chernobyl, I’m already in love with it. HBO is not putting its foot down in the creative team or the production as well, the budget of the first season is $100 Million. This looks like a dream adaptation. The Last of Us pilot just created TV history as it became HBO’s second most successful TV pilot in 13 years. The only show that trumps over it is of course Game of Thrones’ prequel: House of the Dragon (10 Million)

The video game adaptation has drawn in almost 4.7 Million U.S. viewers across HBO and streaming service HBO Max. The Last of Us has surpassed the likes of Game of Thrones, Euphoria, Breaking Bad and many other hit shows to reach this milestone. With the quality that the pilot promises these numbers should just go higher. The show has an IMDb rating of 9.4/10 just below Breaking Bad which is the best rated TV show of all time. With the release of the second episode the excitement around the show didn’t die down in fact a lot more viewers turned in to watch the series had in store for them next.

The Last of Us Episode 2 Draws In More Eyeballs!

The second episode of the show is titled, “When You’re in the Darkness” and according to Variety the new episode has drawn in so much more audience than the pilot. The report reveals that episode 2 saw a 22% jump from the pilot, which means 5.7 million viewers turned in for watching the second episode. This is the largest ever jump from for a HBO show from episode one to episode two. The report also revealed that after a week’s availability, the pilot has been watched by 18 Million viewers.

Four times more than the original figure for its premiere night. This means that after a week passes, the second episode can cross 20 Million threshold. The show is still below House of the Dragon’s numbers as the prequel had garnered an average audience of 29 Million. However, one should take into consideration that the HOTD did have an advantage given that it is a prequel to the Biggest Show of All Time! If the quality of the show doesn’t drop, The Last of Us will have a much larger audience till its season finale.

Pedro Pascal leads the cast of The Last of Us as Joel, a smuggler hired to deliver Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, a teenager immune to the Cordyceps brain infection that has wiped out the world, to a group of survivors working to manufacture a cure. Alongside Pascal and Ramsey, the cast for HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation includes Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman and Storm Reid.

The first two episode of The Last of Us is available for streaming on HBO Max or Disney+ Hotstar, new episodes would release every week.
