Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 8 – King Lalo Salamanca Is Dead
The good news is that Kim Wexler is now out of any imminent danger. Fans were quite worried about her fate as she didn’t appear in Breaking Bad, but now that Lalo Salamanca is dead, no cartel danger awaits her. She still might be killed off in an accident or something, but the chances of that happening are now very low. So, take a sigh of relief as Kim might make it out alive. But Lalo Salamanca, one of the best antagonist of Breaking Bad universe yet, has bit the dust. He almost made his plan work but Gus Fring showed once again, exactly why he is one of the most dangerous villains on TV.
In a nail-biting confrontation Gus managed to kill Lalo Salamanca and proved once and for all that he’s the boss. I would be lying if I say I wasn’t worried about Kim till the first half of the episode as Saul sent her to “point and shoot” rather than going himself. Some might say it was a cowardly move whereas I believe he did so to let Kim drive away from Lalo and all this messy situation he put themselves in. However, Kim chose to do what she was asked to in order to save Saul, rather than escaping. So, whatever Saul’s motivations were, it is clear that he indeed is a cockroach and manages to survive everything.
Apart from being an absolute thrill ride it had one tender moment I need to talk about. In the final moments of the show, we see Mike and co burying what’s left of Howard Hamlin and Lalo Salamanca. We all knew Lalo will end this way, but none of us wanted this for Howard Hamlin, and so didn’t Mike. We saw hints of respect and despair in his eyes while burying Howard and his look clearly stated, “This shouldn’t have happened… poor Howard.” The symbolism of the victim and the killer sharing the same grave was another thing which made this episode a masterpiece. How do you do it, Vince Gilligan, huh?!
What’s Next for Saul Goodman?
Now that Better Call Saul’s cartel story seems to have been wrapped, the Saul Goodman story can finally be the focus of the show once again. I mean Lalo is dead, and Tuco is in prison, so now Gus is free to execute his plan and wrap up construction of his lab that would later on be led by Walter White. Not much is left to show now as apart from Hector no one knows Lalo was alive and Hector can’t speak. So, we can call it a wrap on the Cartel story. That brings us to Jimmy fully adopting the Saul Goodman name and his relationship with Kim Wexler.
The main plot line of the Sandpiper case which began in the initial few seasons was also wrapped up in the mid-season finale. Now that Jimmy will finally have his Million dollar commission, we’ll see him totally switching to the Saul Goodman side we love from Breaking Bad. As for Kim Wexler, it is a bit unclear where she’ll go on from here. She might continue breaking bad or she might go on a journey of self-redemption, because there is no doubt she also shares the guilt for Howard’s death. Will she leave Saul now and totally cut ties or will she become the Walter White of this show? All that remains to be seen and with 5 episodes remaining, a lot can still happen!
Final Verdict – Better Call Saul season 6 episode 8 somehow manages to match the shock and awe of Episode 7 Plan and Execution and hence, will go down in the history as one of the very best of not just Breaking Bad, but the entire TV industry.
