The Black Phone Streaming, Digital and Bluray Release

The Black Phone is heading to your home TV after a few solid weekends at the box office. It’s far earlier than some viewers might have anticipated that Scott Derrickson’s highly-rated new thriller will be available on video-on-demand services, especially in light of how well it did at the box office. Blumhouse recently disclosed that The Black Phone would be made accessible via VOD services this Friday.

The Black Phone will be available for home viewing beginning on July 15th, according to the Blumhouse announcement. Although a price hasn’t been made public yet, it typically costs $20 or $25 to watch a movie immediately after it opens in theatres. The announcement is provided below.

The Black Phone Digital and Home Release

Set in the 1970s, Ethan Hawke plays The Grabber, a serial kidnapper and murderer, in the crime drama The Black Phone, based on a short story by Joe Hill. Mason Thames, playing Finney Shaw, a child kidnapped by the Grabber who must find a means to escape him, also appears in the movie in his first-ever acting role. The film’s director Derrickson co-wrote the script with his longtime partner C. Robert Cargill.

Derrickson also intends to adapt the famous horror writer’s proposal for a sequel to The Black Phone into a second instalment of the series.

Earlier this year, Derrickson told ComicBook.com, “Joe Hill pitched me a wonderful idea for a sequel to Black Phone that, if this movie does well, I’m gonna do it. He’s got a great idea, I really liked it. Joe’s very protective and personal about his material, but he came to me with the idea, and I was like, ‘That’s how you do a sequel to Black Phone. That’s terrific.'”

There hasn’t been any word on whether or not the film will have a sequel, but given how well the movie has been performing in theatres, it would not come off as a surprise.
