Doctor Strange has always been a pivotal character for the MCU since his introduction. In the science dominated universe, Doctor Strange brings a mystic element which spices things up. The character was almost the curator in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame which were the concluding chapters of the Infinity saga. Ever since it has been announced that the next saga of the MCU is called the Multiverse Saga, I think it is clear that the doctor would be in the centre of affairs. The first Doctor Strange film is one of my favorite MCU films of all time. I think it is an extremely underrated product and I don’t think I should rave about how perfect Benedict Cumberbatch is in anything he does. The man is one of the best actors currently in the game. The sequel that came out last year, well… I was not a fan of that.
Nothing was maddening about the multiverse in the sequel. However, the lame story and weak characters were pretty maddening though. I will always love Doctor Strange but the rest of the film was just so lame. In retrospect though, it might be the best Marvel film that came out last year simply because of the mediocrity that is thriving in the MCU. As Doctor Strange is a very important part of the current saga, it was surprising that there was no Doctor Strange film between now and the next two Avengers films, however, that might change as one of the unannounced 6 Marvel projects is definitely a Doctor Strange threequel.
Is Doctor Strange 3 In the Works?
The second Doctor Strange film ended on a sort of a cliffhanger where Stephen while strolling the streets of New York meets Clea who is Dormamu’s niece. She asks Strange to join her as an incursion is caused because of him. They both walk away in dimension that is awfully similar to the Dark dimension where Dormamu resides that we saw in the first Doctor Strange. I can only assume that that has something to do with Avengers 5, how I think the threequel will answer that which is reportedly in the works.
The Scooper in a tweet yesterday, confirmed that 2026 will be the year when we get Doctor Strange 3 along with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and an Eternals sequel as well. The tweet said, “2026 Doctor Strange 3, Kang Dynasty and Eternals Sequel. They are exploring moving Avatar 4 up to November or delay it back a year to give Secret Wars December instead of pushing it to May 2027.”There was another rumor that after falling out of the sequel due to creative differences, Scott Derrickson is all set of make a comeback for the threequel.
However, this is just a rumour as of now as no reputable source has confirmed it. Big Screen Leaks supported certain details of this rumor by posting the following, “Just heard this as well. Not sure about Derrickson returning though.” It is clear that Marvel will be announcing a new theatrical release slate as they’re planning to add some movies before Avengers 5 & 6. Secret Wars taking the December slot makes sense considering that Cameron said Avatar 4 will be delayed to 2027. A summer release for Avatar seems just as appropriate.
