The God of War Franchise is one of the biggest and most popular gaming franchises. The first game in the franchise was made back in 2005. After its instant success the game was only going to get bigger and bigger. This action-adventure hack and slash crusade game was developed by Santa Monica Studios and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Every iteration of the God of War has been highly critically acclaimed and liked by fans. The games have been an absolute game changer in the gaming industry and certainly took the boundaries of gaming to new extremes.

The visuals that the God of War franchise offers is something unreal and the surprising thing is that they keep getting better. The most recent reboot to the God of War franchise came in 2018 and it was a massive hit, it was even considered to be the Game of the Year by many. The sequel to that was God of War: Ragnarok and the sequel was an improvement on the original game in every aspect. It was able to live up to all the ridiculous expectations that fans had from it. The game was extremely successful and it looks like its success is going to give it a live action adaptation. According to a new report, God of War is getting a movie adaptation.

God of War Movie: Speculations Explained!

YouTuber Foxstar Media has released trailers for an upcoming God of War movie that is supposed to release soon in 2024. These trailers feature Dwayne Johnson as Kratos with Sony Pictures and Santa Monica Studio collaborating to put to life a live action movie. These trailers have already proven to be fake but fans should definitely get excited about an upcoming God of War live action series under development at Amazon Prime Video.

However, these fake trailers don’t mean that there was never an actual possibility of a live action God of War movie. Here are some media interactions where a God of War live action movie was in discussion and serious consideration.

Earlier, producer Charles Roven had mentioned the franchise’s big screen potential, “We’ve been enthralled by this project since our first time playing the game in March and realized its narrative had great potential for large-screen production.”

Sony Santa Monica’s director of product development John Hight (via UGO) confirmed a script’s existence, “I don’t believe anything other than a script has transpired at this stage. I think as part of the agreement that (the movie studio) is supposed to (consult us), so if we hear something, than we’ll know. But at this point and in the past two years, we’ve heard nothing.”

The Hollywood Reporter later revealed more updates on the potential God of War movie in 2012 that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan were hired to rewrite that script, following up on executive producer David Self’s work. Dunstan then revealed an update on the film, “‘God of War’ was turned in last week, and by god, the reason I cannot wait for you guys to see that is because yes. Yes, the door was left wide open to be bold, and that is why that movie… I really hope it sees the light of day and comes out charging, because it’s a lightning strike.”

However, a Sony spokesperson told The New York Times in 2021 that there were never plans for a God of War movie to be developed, squashing many fans’ hopes.

Ragnarok is available for purchase on Play Station 5 and Play Station 4. God of War Series is currently under development and doesn’t have a release day yet.
