Raised By Wolves is one of the most underrated sci-fi series created by Aaron Guzikowski, and executive-produced by Ridley Scott. The sci-fi drama first premiered on HBO MAX back in September 2020 and had created a small cult fan base of it’s own for niche science fiction lovers.
What’s Raised By Wolves About?
The sci-fi drama revolves around two androids, Mother(Amanda Collins) and Father(Abubakar Salim), who were tasked to raise human children on the remote planet Kepler-22b. Together they have to face the mysteries of the alien planet while resolving their differences and conflicts. The show also has Vikings Fame, Travis Fimmel in a key role. In addition, the series contains Ridley Scott’s atheist vs theistic elements of philosophy seen in his other works like Blade Runner and Prometheus. There are two warring factions called the Mithraic religionists, inspired from one of the ancient Greece religions and on the other side is team atheists with their own tech, struggling to counter the Mithraic’s advanced robots of mass destruction called Necromancers.
Their battle leaves Earth in ruins and completely uninhabitable to both parties. Therefore, the Mithraics band together in an Ark to leave Earth for Kepler-22b, where they hope to find a human colony and a new beginning. Unbeknownst to them, Campion Sturges(Cosmo Jarvis), a former Mithraic scientist who switched sides to the Athiest’s captures a deadly Necromancer of the former’s primary weapon, and reprograms her to raise human children and establish an atheist colony on Kepler-22b. A new conflict begins between the two factions on the virgin planet.
The series is a must watch for sci-fi lovers who were thirsty with the least number of good sci-fi shows available. People who love the Ridley Scott sci-fi elements like Androids that look human and vomit milk when took a hit, were in for a ride, as Scott himself designed the look of the two lead Androids and storyboarded most of the season’s sci-fi elements. Ridley also directed the pilot and the second episode while his son, Luke Scott directed the third and fourth episodes and the season finale. Both Ridley and Luke didn’t return for season 2, but still with the busy schedule and other projects of Ridley, he’s still involved with season 2.
HOW MANY SEASONS WERE PLANNED?
Season 2 of Raised By Wolves Premiered on February 3, 2022 and concluded recently. According to the showrunner Aaron Guzikowski, he has plans for the show to run for 5 seasons. Season 1 had good numbers on HBOMAX for a niche sci-fi series of this kind. Season 2 also is reportedly did have a great viewership than the debut season. Fans are waiting for the news of renewal for season 3, but since the conclusion of season 2’s finale, no calls were taken by HBOMAX so far on the status of the series. Maybe the merger with Discovery is one of the reasons, nonetheless, sci-fi lovers are hoping this is not the end for the series.
