God of War: Ragnarok is one of the most anticipated games right now. Slated for a November 9, 2022 release, it isn’t very far now and the hype is rising by the day. Those who have beaten God of War (2018) can’t help but speculate what’s next in store for our favorite demi-god and his “boy”. As you may well know, God of War (2018) is often considered one of the best games ever made, so one can imagine the pressure of topping that with this sequel. Now that we have received official word on its release, collector’s editions, and a sweet teaser, fans can’t help but let out their excitement in whatever way possible, and one of that ways is art.
Will Surtur Be In God of War: Ragnarok?
Yes, he will most definitely be in God of War: Ragnarok and we’ll talk about that in a second. Before that, have a look at this exceptional Fan Art of Surtr by u/Buffybumcheeks.
The best part about this look is that he doesn’t look that menacing as he did in Thor: Ragnarok. Instead who looks very similar to the World Serpent in expression and is a Fire Giant patiently waiting to fulfill his role in the prophecy. Surtur, or Surtr The Brave is a fire elemental in Norse mythology who is prophesized to lay waste to Midgard and Asgard.
The Midgard Serpent, Surtr the fire giant, and the wolf Fenrir have a major role to play in Ragnarok. Its said when Ragnarok occurs Serpent would devour Thor as well as Midgard, Fenrir would swallow the Sun, Odin will ride one last time only to be killed by Fenrir, and finally Surtr would turn Midgard and Asgard to ashes and die along with it. So, considering that the following game would showcase Ragnarok and the events following it, we can be damn sure we’ll see Surtr as well.
Serpent was already a major part of God of War 2018, and we have seen the first look of Fenrir in God of War: Ragnarok’s latest Son and Father teaser. So, with Fenrir and Serpent already on board, Surtr’s first look might also be coming really soon. Following is the excerpt from God of War 2018 interaction between Mimir and Atreus about Surtr:
“Surtr the Brave forged his sword of flame for one purpose alone – to burn down Asgard when Ragnarök comes at last. His destiny is to fall at the hands of Thor and Odin, but in so doing, strike the blow that leaves their realm in ash and ruin. And from that destruction, the world can be born anew. Until then, alone he waits in Muspelheim, never sleeping, ever honing his fiery blade. Brave, generous Surtr, who knows he lives but to his doom. All because he chooses to serve a grand cycle, so much bigger than himself. To truly embrace your purpose, and the patience and sacrifice it demands, is to ensure your day will come.”
So, yeah Surtur/Surtr will surely be a part of God of War: Ragnarok, and we’ll make sure to pass on more info about it as soon as we get. So stay tuned!
