Transformers is one of the most popular movie and animation franchise as well merchandise among kids and teenagers. While most of its movies are not critically acclaimed, they have a strong fan following. In fact, it is a franchise with one of the most Razzies (Golden Raspberries) nominations including 1 for Transformers, 7 for Revenge of the Fallen, 8 for Dark of the Moon, 7 for Transformers: Age of Extinction and 9 for Transformers: The Last Knight. So, basically Bumbleblee is the only Transformers film which doesn’t have a Razzies nomination and was loved by the fans and critics alike. But you have to give Paramount some credit as their spirit remains undeterred and they will soon be back with another film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts which will serve as a reboot.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Characters Leaked
A lot of fan favorite characters as well as new ones are set to return for this Transformers prequel and they have been listed below as per type:
1. Autobots aka the protagonists of the saga:
- Optimus Prime: Like many of the previous installments, he is going to be the main character of the film. Peter Cullen returns to voice him and the film will reportedly show him evolving into the Optimus seen in the Bay films. Leaked promotional material shows a similar design to his appearance in Bumblebee.
- Bumblebee: Everyone’s favorite and the proud lead of the best film in the franchise will be in the film. He will transform into an off-road Camaro and so far, there is no word on whether or not he will have his voice back.
- Arcee: He will serve as Optimus Prime’s lieutenant and will transform into a Ducati 916. Apparently, he has some elements of Energon Arcee (I.e motorcycle Alt Mode).
- Mirage: He will transform into Porsche 911 and is new to the reboot series. He is described as anti-authority and will be voiced by Pete Davidson.
- Wheeljack: He will transform into white and beige Volkswagen campervan.
2. Maximals who are basically Autobot transformers who can transform to animal inspired body:
- Optimus Primal: He will transform into a Gorilla and reportedly resembles the concept art that was made for The Last Knight, but with fur. He will be voiced by Ron Pearlman, who previously voiced the character in the Power of the Primes web series.
- Rhinox: He will transform into a Rhino.
- Airazor: She will transform into a Falcon and will be voiced by Michelle Yeoh.
- Cheetor: Will transform into a Cheetah and is confirmed to appear during Hasbro PulseCon 2021.
3. Terrorcons will be the main antagonists of the film:
- Scourge: He will be the leader of the Terrorcons and the film’s main antagonist who is reportedly a hybrid of Cybertron Scourge and Prime Predaking. He will transform into a rusted semi-truck and he collects the insignias of Autobots, Maximals, Decepticons, Mercenaries, and Wreckers that he has killed.
- Nightbird: Yes, its the same Nightbird from the one episode of the G1 Cartoon. He will be Scourge’s second in command and its alternate mode is a Nissan GTR. He’s apparently defected to the Terrorcons, not stated what her original affiliation was.
- Battletrap who will transform into an orange GMC Tow Truck
4. Decepticons and Predacons who served as the primary antagonists of the franchise so far will also be present but its unclear who all will be there. Essentially, terrorcons themselves are basically a group of five decepticons only. But as per merchandise leaks, Terrorsaur, Tarantulas, Blackarachnia, Rattrap, Megatron (Beast), Scorponok, and Dinobot might also be in the character roster. It is possible that G1 Megatron and Beast Megatron are merged into the same character if they don’t plan on fitting within the Bayverse continuity.
5. Humans
- Noah by Anthony Ramos as an ex-military electronics expert who lives with his family in Brooklyn, trying to support them
- Elena by Dominique Fishback as an artifact researcher at a museum whose boss keeps taking credit for her work
- Luna Lauren Vélez and Tobe Nwigwe in unknown roles
Rise of the Beasts Plot Leaks
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is going to be set in 1994, seven years after the events of Bumblebee and primarily set in New York and Peru. It will reportedly have elements of heist films. Terrorcons mentioned above are described as being a threat to all factions. Furthermore, Vieweranon, a leaker with a solid track record for DC and Marvel properties, stated that Unicron will be introduced in the film as the big bad, with the Terrorcons as his heralds. With Rise of the Beasts, the franchise intends to launch a new trilogy and the directors have stated that they felt Autobots vs Decepticons was overdone (which is true).
The premise of the film reads, “In 1994, a pair of archaeologists from Brooklyn come into an ancient conflict through a globe-trotting adventure that ties in with three factions of Transformers: the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons.” Some other leaked details are that the characters will have Generation One style designs like they did in Bumblebee. Maximals are confirmed to have hide/fur from their alternate modes. Predacons are stated to be reptilian in nature. Whether this means all Predacons will have Reptillian Beast Modes is unknown.
That pretty much covers all we know so far. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is all set to release in theatre on June 9, 2023.
