It goes without saying that every 90’s and 2000’s kid has grown up with the Kung Fu Panda series and it is about time we got a new instalment in the franchise. Po is one of the most famous characters that Dreamworks has ever produced. The furry fighter debuted in 2008 and was an absolute hit with the audiences as he was both determined, naive, and too loveable. After two successful sequels, viewers believed that the franchise came to an end in 2016 as a trilogy but last year Dreamworks announced Kung Fu Panda 4’s official release date. Since then, we have barely gotten any updates but that is about to change today!
Kung Fu Panda 4: Awkwafina’s New Character Zhen Leaked
Hours ago, Dreamworks shared a massive new poster featuring dozens of characters from all of the studio’s movies. These characters were from franchises like Shrek, Madagascar, and How to Train Your Dragon. Among them, we see Jack Black’s Po from the Kung Fu Panda movies alongside a brand new character named Zhen. In the above attached poster look to the left of Po and you’ll spot a grey fox – that is Zhen.
What we know about Zhen/Chen so far is that she is a grey fox who will be under Po’s tutelage to become the next Dragon Warrior. She will be voiced by Awkwafina and the following is what Jack Black had to say about the character:
In Kung Fu Panda 4, Po is set to become the new spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace, but before he can do that, he must find a successor to become the new Dragon Warrior. He appears to find one in Zhen, a fox with plenty of promising abilities but who doesn’t quite like the idea of Po training him. The two eventually learn to get along… but becoming a true master/student team was just the beginning. … Desperate to find a way to defeat The Chameleon, Po and Zhen must leave the Valley of Peace and go into the big city for the first time.
So, it would be quite interesting to see the dynamics between Po and her new Padawan. From what Jack said above, we can assume to see similar dynamics between them as Master Sifu and Po. However, unlike Sifu and Po, this time the student won’t be on board with getting trained by the master. Poor Po, as loveable as he is, the characters in the canon always take their sweet time before accepting him.
Kung Fu Panda 4 will be released in theatres on March 8, 2024.
