The Legend of Zelda is to Nintendo what God of War is to PlayStation aka their exclusive trump card. It is one of Nintendo’s longest running franchise and the most critically acclaimed game series of all time. In fact, TLOZ: Ocarina of Time was even listed by Guinness World Records as the highest-rated video game in history with a Metacritic score of 99 out of 100. Its most recent game TLOZ: Breath of the Wild won The Game of the Year Award at 2017’s Game Awards and went on to win 189 GOTY from various outlets. Now there’s a sequel coming called TLOZ: Tears of Kingdom which has already won Game Award for most anticipated game which will release in 2023. But today what we are going to talk about is not the game but actually a new rumored TLOZ animated film.
The Legend of Zelda Animated Movie Allegedly Under Development
Yes, that’s right, according to reports, a new The Legend of Zelda animated film is under development at Illumination. As of now, the only cinematic adaptation these games ever got was a 13 episode American animated series which came out in 1989. In 2015, we got news that Netflix and Nintendo were working together on a live-action adaptation of the game series. The planning and effort about the series went on till a few years until it was finally reported in 2021 that the adaptation has been sacked by Nintendo. But if this latest animated movie rumor is true, then it is a really big move for Nintendo as they are finally trying to expand the franchise to other media.
Not much else is known about the rumored project and the only thing we have heard right now is that it is allegedly under development. The only other detail we have is that Illumination is the studio behind the rumored film. If you do not know, Illumination Entertainment is an American computer animation studio, which has produced over 12 feature films which were all box office success. It’s famous projects include Despicable Me series, Minions series, The Secret Life of Pets and more recently The Super Mario Bros movie.
In case, this information is true, the franchise seems to be in safe hands as Illumination clearly knows what its doing. Fans were a bit skeptical about their coming Super Mario Bros movies but the trailer they released a few weeks back was highly impressive and literally shut down the skeptics. However, as of now, we’ll ask to not take this rumor too seriously, even though the source, Giant Freaking Robot, has been right about a lot of stuff in the past.
