Anyone But You is the definition of a sleeper hit. The film debuted in theatres on December 22nd amongst immense competition from big movies like Wonka, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Migration, The Color Purple and Ferrari. No one expected the film to last more than a few weeks. However, starting January there was a new wave of support for the film which resulted in its box office rejuvenation. Since then, each new week I’ve been reading about the amazing business that the film is doing. The success of Anyone But You doesn’t just mark the return of the rom-com genre but also is a testament to the popularity of actors like Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.
The online release date of the film has changed thrice since its theatrical debut, simply because the studio realized it is more profitable for the Will Gluck directorial to be available in theatres exclusively. Well, now that the studio feels they’ve extracted enough dollars from the film, they have announced an official digital release date.
Anyone But You Will Finally Be Available On Digital Platform!
According to a new report from When To Stream, that Sony Pictures’ Anyone But You will be available for rent or purchase on digital and VOD platforms like Vudu, Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video from February 20th, 2024. For a long time, the film’s online release date was supposed to be January 23rd, however, considering the film’s amazing theatrical response, Sony delayed it indefinitely.
Now that we have the film’s digital release date, we know that the Sydney Sweeney starrer had an exclusive theatrical run of 60 days, which is an one of the highest theatre to digital window for a film distributed by Sony Pictures. For comparison here are Sony Pictures’ latest releases and their distance between theatrical release and hitting PVOD:
- No Hard Feelings – 53 days
- Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – 46 days
- Gran Turismo – 32 days
- Thanksgiving – 32 days
- The Pope’s Exorcist – 27 days
- 65 – 28 days
- Big George Foreman – 19 days
Also, according to a new listing on dvdreleasedates, Anyone But You will also be available on physical media formats like DVD and Blu-ray on March 12th, 2024. Earlier this date was revealed to be February 27th but got pushed back since the studio decided to delay the film’s online debut.
Anyone But You was made on a budget of $25 million and has earned a staggering $189.3 million. The film is a huge box office success much like most of the Sony films this year. There is no update on the film’s streaming release date. However, considering this is a Sony Production, Anyone but You will most likely head to Netflix, thanks to the deal between Sony and the streaming giant.
The movies generally come six months after their theatrical release. Considering that, Anyone but You should be available to stream on Netflix in late June 2024. Along with Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney in the lead, the rom com also boasts a fantastic supporting cast including Darren Barnet, Alexandra Shipp, Hadley Robinson and Dermot Mulroney.
