The DCEU is on the verge of a rebirth as it is now been renamed to DCU. Warner Bros. is trying to correct all their mistakes that they committed in their first shot of creating a cinematic universe after their merger with Discovery. The studio realized that they have great asset which is not being used to its full potential and more than that it is being treated unfairly as mediocrity is thriving there. The asset was turning into a liability as the franchise was becoming a box office failure. Their last two ventures like Shazam! and Aquaman pulled them out of the slump that they’ve been in. However, it was clear that if they plan on building cinematic universe, then there has to be one person helming it who has a clear vision regarding all the content that comes out and how everything will culminate together.
Basically, they wanted their own Kevin Feigi and after months of search they finally appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new heads of DC after they fired Walter Hamada. DCU’s dawn was clear with the release of Black Adam which brought back Henry Cavill’s beloved iteration of Superman. Fans are now extremely elated and excited to see the new DC or DCU as it has all the right elements with which they can create something like the MCU or better. However, even after months of being appointed as new DC heads, the duo has not made any announcements of the new slate of movies. To answer fans’ cries James Gunn has now has provided a clear update.
DCU and James Gunn to Announce New Movies Next Year?
A new poster for Blue Beetle film was tweeted by James Gunn on Twitter, as he was online he was also answering some fan questions candidly. There a fan asked Gunn that will Blue Beetle would be the first DC film to come out under his vision? Gunn answered this question with, “Peter and I will help to guide the already filmed projects for the next year, but the new slate won’t start until after Aquaman 2″ After which another fan commented that Gunn will have nothing to do with the next five DC movies as they were shot before Gunn’s hiring.
Gunn replied to this comment with sass. The Suicide Squad director said, “I wish you’d told me this before I started giving notes.” Another fan appreciated Gunn as under his vision the DCU will thrive. To that Gunn clearly established his role as DC head for the next year or so. He said, “And I appreciate it! We’re excited to be shepherding the great films made before we arrived & working hard to create an extraordinary, wondrous, & unique DCU beyond that.”
So, these Twitter comments have provided us with an update regarding DC’s plan. It is clear that the next 5 movies would release and Gunn-Safran plan would be begin after them however, their plan might be surrounded around them to make sense out of them.
DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
