The trailer for the new Anne Hathaway and Peter Dinklage starrer comedy “She Came To Me” just dropped, and everyone has been talking about it. Directed by Rebecca Miller, the movie had previously premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this year. The movie had a number of names attached to it, including Steve Carrell, Amy Schumer, Nicole Kidman, and Tahar Rahim. However, now the final cast comprises Hathaway, Dinklage, Marisa Tomei and Joana Kulig.
What is She Came To Me About?
She Came To Me stars Peter Dinklage as a composer, Steven Lauddem, and Anne Hathaway as his wife, Patricia. Steven faces a creative block, and is unable to make music. When Patricia, his wife who is also a therapist, asks him to go out and find inspiration, he meets Katrina played by Marisa Tomei, a tugboat captain who turns his life upside down. The film has an eccentric element to its storytelling, as Miller points out in an interview with Entertainment Weekly,
“As a director, I was obsessed with the idea that the character Steven Lauddem’s behavior in the film be authentic. And that real composers could watch the film and believe it, even as much of the film has an absurd quality. I find that when you burrow deep into real life, you come back with some crazy gems, because life is inherently absurd.”
Involvement of Bruce Springsteen
This sexual “operatic” comedy, as Hathaway calls it, features a song written by Bruce Springsteen — called Addicted To Love, which he wrote after watching the film and being thoroughly impressed with it. What is incredibly apt for this is the fact that Springsteen had not written for a year until he had watched the movie, and almost serendipitously started writing, just like Steven overcomes his creative block. Miller said about Springsteen’s involvement in the project,
“Bruce and [his wife Patti Scialfa] ended up watching the film, and, to my delight, they both loved it! Bruce said he’d take a few days to see if anything came to him for a song. Miraculously, ‘Addicted to Romance’ was the result. He says he was inspired by the film, which is a great honor for me.”
She Came To Me will premiere in theatres on September 29, 2023. Critics have already been praising the movie for utilising Dinklage’s underused comedic timing and potential, and Hathaway’s performance as a neurotic therapist — and you should definitely check out the movie if you are fan of either of the stars or these elements.
