Sophie Wilde in Talk To Me

An indie horror movie has become one of the biggest talks of the town, and it’s none other than Talk to Me. Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, this Australian supernatural horror movie has grossed over 46 million dollars worldwide and is one of the best horror movie openings at A24 its American distributor since Midsommar. Talk To Me, which premiered with Haunted Mansion, was projected to earn around 4-5 million dollars, which it ended up earning on its very first day. Even though we were not that impressed by this film (review here), the world surely was. Read on to find more about the film and its future.

Talk To Me 2 and More

Talk To Me follows a group of teenagers who realise that they can summon spirits with an embalmed hand, and things are fun for them for a while, until they manage to accidentally unleash supernatural forces that wreak havoc on their lives. The movie stars Jess Gazley, Sophie Wilde, Zoe Terakes, Miranda Otto and Chris Alosio. The entire cast who are all pretty inexperienced are receiving major praise from the critics. Screenrant wrote about Sophie Wilde,

“Sophie Wilde’s performance is superb, instilling Mia with a sense of fear, emotional distance, and a yearning to be close to her mother again. The circle of life and death abounds, culminating in an excellent final moment, and Wilde’s ability to balance all of Mia’s emotions and sympathetic actions underscore the tension and themes of the film.”

Critics have also been praising the Philippous having such a strong directorial voice this early on in their career. The film received a B+ on Cinemascore ratings, and on Rotten Tomatoes the movie is certified 94% fresh. The movie had caused huge bidding wars among distributors, with Universal Pictures and A24 being the final contenders, until the latter won the competition and now is making major profits at the box office.

Talk To Me premiered at Adelaide Film Festival in 2022, and then at Sundance. Now that it has grossed this much in such a short amount of time, it is going to have a sequel film : Talk 2 Me, under the A24 banner. The Philippous will return as directors. The duo also confirmed that they have finished principal photography on a prequel film that explores the backstory of the character Duckett, and intend to release it soon.
