The Batman 2

The Batman is the one and only DC film that has released this year. Surprisingly the film was better than any Marvel content we have gotten so far. The film is not part of the DC Extended Universe, it is similar to Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy and Todd Philips’ Joker Franchise where events are happening in its own microcosmic universe. The film was helmed by Matt Reeves who has previously directed films like Planet of the Apes, War on the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield and Let Me In. The Batman was one of the first films of the year to taste critical and box office success. The film was praised for its gritty tone, amazing visuals and deep characters. However, we all know the film wasn’t flawless. The obvious problems in the third act were undeniable.

Still considering everything and especially the powerful first 2 acts the film made its mark. The film currently has a score of 7.9/10 on IMDb and 85% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was made on a hefty budget of $185 Million and the film earned $770.8 Million worldwide. Given the predicament theatre releases were at the time when the film released, its performance is praiseworthy. The film was an all out success for Warner Bros. so it was natural for us to assume we’ll see Pattinson’s Batman once again very soon. However, according to a recent update the sequel won’t be here as soon as you’d expect it. It is a long time away.

The Batman 2 Will Take Longer Than You Expect!

An August report suggested that the sequel has not been officially greenlit by the Warner Bros. It was apparent that the sequel is indeed happening but director Matt Reeves has not yet completed and submitted a script. However, Matt Reeves has stated multiple times that he extremely thrilled about making another Batman movie very soon. The Batman director has mentioned words like “be excited to tell more stories”, “have started talking about another movie,” and “Bruce’s psychology would grow over two more movies.”

Now whenever Warner Bros. officially greenlits is just formality which we don’t really care about. However, one thing that we should care about is when will it release and the latest report brings nothing but bad news. Warner Bros confirmed at CinemaCon 2022 that there are indeed plans for a sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, with movie chief Toby Emmerich. However, Variety’s latest report suggests that the sequel won’t be here till 2025 at the earliest. This new report is in line with the website’s  August update where they mentioned that the sequel hasn’t been greenlit. This is because Matt Reeves has not generated a script yet.

Toby Emmerich did confirm the sequel at CinemaCon 2022, Matt took one of our most iconic and beloved superheroes and delivered a fresh. Matt Reeves, Rob Pattinson, and the entire team will be taking audiences back to Gotham with The Batman 2.” Aside from The Batman sequel, Matt Reeves has also been working on three other Batman villain spin-off films in the works, as well as Colin Farrell’s Penguin spin-off series, which is set to begin filming in 2023, so assumingly it could have a potential 2024 release window.

The other spin-off series will focus on the Arkham Asylum. The series recently brought on board Antonio Campos who directed The Devil All The Time as its showrunner, hinting that the series is in early development just like the other villain spin-off movies. Three movies are rumored to surround around Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, and Clayface and are reportedly in the early stages of development. As a result, these projects could premiere after The Batman 2 at the earliest.

The Batman is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
